The last part is impossible...it's such a bizarre story it wont leave the news until it's done.

I think that's accurate but it hasn't stopped the publicity around it.

If Silver really foisted the Colangelos on the Sixers, then it is somewhat karmic that his doing so is now coming back to haunt him. I say let Silver squirm and have to deal with this black eye.

Silver strikes me as being like Manfred in MLB. The Benedict XVI to their predecessors' John Paul II--custodial, shortsighted, reactionary leaders confined by their predecessors' shadows. Both leagues could probably use a Francis.

I am a huge fan of the process. I really am.

Silver ended up having to do what was good for the NBA. If you allow teams to do what the sixers did, no matter how necessary it's impossible to sell your product. The Sixers have benefitted from the "process" due to the sheer amount of assets they had and the ability to miss on some.

I don't know if I'd call this Karma.

But the owners could have reformed the draft and ultimately didn't want to. And arguably the process did not work perfectly for the Sixers in terms of either their lottery luck or their picks.

That ESPN story did say Colangelo turned in his phones. And that a law firm is doing it. And plenty of people are yammering about the bigger picture off-the-record. No question the NBA is not happy this is going on but it's really the Sixers who need this to be over fast so they can be ready to do business.

If he can't "GM" his home, he can't helm an NBA team, to my way of thinking.Regardless of what I think, it should be an interesting tale to hear once this is over with.

The bigger issue is that all the assistant GMs are his guys. Can you get an outsider in here fast enough, does one of them end up running the draft, will they stay on (or be wanted)?

There have already been indications (both in Colangelo's statements and press opinions) that the Sixers were just going to wait until 2019 for the big move anyway. This might cinch that whether they wanted to or not (of course there's also the David Griffin scenario).

So what are the options? Fire him today or wait until after the draft (as waiting until after the finals gives them team even less time to make changes and have those changes evaluate the draft)? If it's not until after the draft, then who decides on the pick? Because it seems unlikely that he should be involved in making a pick.

I guess they could get a new GM and assistants in place, but not announce it until after the finals?

Oh, no, they will fire him before the draft, I'm just wondering it drags past Sunday, or if they are going to let him resign (if he agrees to do it). 'Cause if you do it today that's the story during tomorrow's game still.

They could very quietly clean out his office tomorrow night and announce it Monday a.m.

Whatever happens the draft is going to be based on the plans and scouting of the current regime, just a matter of whether a new guy is in place by then and how much he departs from what he inherits. If they don't move fast on a hire they could make one of the assistants interim GM (in deed if not name) and also get Brown more involved (if he wasn't already).

Just don't let Jerry do it.

Don’t you think that the organization has pretty much determined their draft rankings by now? The draft is three weeks away. Would the private workouts/interviews upset the base of evaluation that has already taken place? No one wants a workout wonder to change things like the Birds did with Mamula years ago.

I'm sure the players are more or less ranked. However, they are ranked by people that might not be in the organization in a few days (let alone at the start of the season). Also, any trade options that were on the table a few days ago probably won't be on the table today. So I'm not sure how much those rankings mean if/when BC is fired.

I assume that any of the employees under BC's umbrella are under the chopping block, so I am not sure what would happen between now and the draft if someone else is brought in.

Right even Josh Harris (or Brown of course) could probably make the first pick but there are gonna be trade calls, chances to move up or down, etc. They will likely have to keep at least one of the two VP types whether there is a new guy quickly or not. But they aren't necessarily blind BC loyalists or bad at their job. One of them came from the league office so make of that what you will.

Semi off topic, but there is a buzz that the Celtics may be trying to move up to #5 using their 1st, the '19 Kings pick, and maybe Rozier. The Celtics moving that far up using a pick that they gained from the Sixers for a player they wanted all along really rubs me the wrong way. I'm not even saying it's a good trade as the '19 draft seems to be good, but who knows how better the Kings will play if they don't have to worry about a 1st round pick the next year.

Please let Zarren be in contention for the GM job.

That Sixers pick isn't theirs yet. It is protected if the Kings land the # 1 overall pick, the Sixers get it, so the Celtics can't trade that pick, they can only trade the rights to that pick, which may end up being the Sixers pick, which could be near the top of the league standings next year. Any team trading for that pick is risking that it could be a lottery pick or a virtually useless end of the first round pick, depending on the Kings to not suck enough to get the first pick.

That makes BC a lame duck. I wouldn't want him running my 2018 draft if the plan is to oust him in 2019.

If the Kings pick doesn't convey to the Celtics, then they can always swap that pick for the Memphis or Clippers picks they are due (with protections) in order to move up to #5.

I was referring to players not the GM. i.e., Lebron, George or Leonard weren't going to become 76ers this year anyway. But they definitely won't if this remains unresolved for too long!
