Reported now as done--Chandler, a 2021 second round pick, and a right to swap seconds in 2022 to the Sixers. Minimal cash to the Nuggets. We get a useful player, a couple of draft picks, and an expiring contract to possibly use in a Kawhi trade. We give them money, and not much, since they need to cap room (saves them a bundle since they're in the penalty).

The Sixers are bringing back Amir Johnson on a one year deal. They have basically used up their cap space for the year unless they make other moves, it sure reads like they have given up on trying to land an impact player this year and will use this season to find out what Fultz is and go hard next year for top shelf free agents or trades.

I think they still have a mid-level Exception. Might be enough for one more guy, but they have a lot of guys on their roster now.

Doesn't seem like much is going on around Kawhi Leonard...the spurs don't have as much leverage as they did before so I assume they will wait and see if interest gets stronger.

I actually am encouraged by the relative lack of aggressiveness. Granted I am a "glass half full" kinda guy, but my guess is that they like the new mix of players added to the team they had. They must think they have added outside shooting and defense at least as good or better than last year's mix. They maintained their very competent veteran leadership in Reddick and Johnson. And additionally, and most importantly, they must be getting good reports from the shooting coach that progress is being made on the new impact player, Mr Fultz. I think if that weren't going well, they would have been more aggressive. I really didn't and don't want to give up Cov and Saric and the fabled Miami #1 to get what might be a short term player who doesn't want to be here for the long term. If Fultz is "back", physically and mentally stronger, we are ready for the next steps up the food chain. I can't wait to get started.

I agree, except that I can't picture Drew Hanlen reporting anything but positive progress. It goes against the image he's cultivating as the ultimate shot doctor. So I think Fultz's progress is still very much up in the air.

They are counting on Shamet, Chandler, Smith, and an improved Korkmaz/TLC to replace Bellinelli and Illasova for bench shooting (and maybe an improved Fultz). I would have liked to see (and still would like to see) a couple of those guys exchanged for a proven NBA 3-point gunner like Ellington, but that ship has probably left the port.

Bjelica profiles to replace Ilyasova. By my math we have 18 guys for a 12 man team and 10 man rotation.

Alternative semi conspiracy theory though a positive one if you want Kawhi Leonard: Sixers now have depth via Chandler and Bjelica to trade Covington and Saric in a package

In response to your correct perspective that Drew Hanlen would not want to publicize his inability to reach and improve his most famous client, I obviously agree and so did the Sixers. That is exactly why I believe Coach Brown flew 6 hours each way to see the progress (or lack of same) for himself before the draft. He wanted to judge with his own eyes. Well, obviously I am speculating. We will all see the results soon enough. I hope for Fultz' sake, and ours, that all this work pays off. I also hope that Ben is working as hard as Fultz on his shot, somewhere somehow. After the Boston series, I am guessing he has seen the light and that it lit a competitive fire in him. They are all so crazy young that geometric improvement is still possible. I have sneakers older than these kids.
