What I said, and stand by, is if I (and I think most of us) were told we had one chance (today) to undo that trade and take the best guy who would have been available at 1.3) that we would jump at the chance. Fultz was essentially a healthy scratch from the playoffs this year. The Celtics' pick played like a star. Yes, I most definitely wish Colangelo hadn't made that trade. And yes, I most definitely want to hold our newly acquired, unprotected #1 until 2021. In most sports, the team which lays out a lot of talent/draft picks in a trade for the privilege of paying an iffy star a max contract loses and deserves to.

You're comparing something known to something unknown.

If the sixers end up giving up late round draft pick and Fultz proves to be what was advertised then your assumption is flat wrong.

I'm sure every team in history who made a mistake would love a do-over...they only exist in the games of young children.

Ok...but when you definitively have no idea what asset you've given up there is no way to determine the trade. We've still given up nothing more than the 3rd pick for the 1st pick.

Go after either of those guys and forget Kawhi. A guy who didn't want to play for one team is not a guy to give up assets to obtain. Injury/attitude issues and far too likely to be a negative rather than a plus. Disruption, not playing, demanding trade, tying up $ -- just avoid the grief. Yes, he is a great talent. That's not enough.

It'll be the Sixers version of TO -- helped the Eagles one year then totally destroyed the team the next.

Given the way these players are in cahoots with one another these days in their attempts to create "superteams" (e.g. LBJ's Heat teams, today's Warriors), I'm not sure the Sixers can get one (a top FA) without the other (Kawhi).

I know they're "star hunting," but they may have to hope Fultz becomes that third star to join Joel & Ben. Given the landscape, I don't know how much control the Sixers have for things to develop otherwise.

I love Dario and would hate to trade him, but if you told me Kawhi would assure LeBron coming here, and you could roll out a lineup of Leonard, James, Simmons, Embid, and whoever, that would be pretty devastating.

He seems determined to go to LA. He can opt out of contract after a year. It's a lot safer and I'd rather build with what we have. Sign the best FA (or 2) that we can, keep our young players and draft picks, and see how next season plays out.

Oh I'm sure he is, but if he and LeBron are working together, LeBron's going to LA too. Or Kawhi would come here and take the extension if LeBron is here. We shall see, lots will happen and who knows in what order.

As far as his difficulties in SA, that's pretty weird, because he's not a prima donna and the Spurs are usually a happy family. But I think he's mostly just a shy person. In which case Philly might not fit (but neither would LA, even though it's home). More importantly though, Brett Brown knows as much about Kawhi Leonard as anyone besides Popovich and Buford (and other Spurs people), so if he wants him on his team I'm good with that.

None of these items a shock but still feels like tough start to Sixers summer:

-Belinelli to Spurs
-Ilyasova to Bucks
-Paul George staying in OKC
-Lebron visiting LA
-Fultz will not play in Summer League

It is clear we had to "clear the decks" to enable us to be competitive in the FA marketplace. And I know we used the draft to shore up our ability to hit threes with our solid center of the court. But we better hope that the scouting crew got it right with our picks because without Belinelli and Ilyasova, we have lost a huge part of our second half of the season firepower. They had their faults but they each provided solid veteran presence and the ability to make shots under pressure. Can our newbies replace them? Let's hope they can!

The 76ers have also been engaged in talks with the San Antonio Spurs on a potential Kawhi Leonard trade, and so far, have kept three players off-limits in talks, team sources tell ESPN -- Embiid, Simmons and Markelle Fultz.

The Spurs have been pursuing a package for Leonard that combines future assets and players who can help them stay a playoff team in the present. The Sixers have shown a willingness to trade for Leonard without a promise that he'd re-sign with them in 2019, when he'd be able to opt out of his contract.
