2. I think it is dumb to trade Fultz and Saric
3. Especially for a guy who doesn't want to be here.
4. Simmons missed his entire first year
5. Embiid missed his entire first 2 years
6. For whatever his problems are when they played Fultz he showed many flashes
7. I think its silly to think that his problems are permanent

Squire, I'm usually on board with you, but I thought it was a good night. To echo the style of the above post:

1. They drafted Bridges, who was the right guy at that point (thank goodness no MPJ)
2. They got an offer for their #2 guy that included a tremendous asset, and they took it.
3. Zaire Smith, in their analysis, is much farther along with his shot than people in general think. He's smart, knows how to cut off the ball (a team weakness), and is by far their best athlete now.
4. They took the second-best deep shooter in the draft in Shamet, and got a guy (Shake) deep in the second who can also shoot. Here are the top 25 spot up shooters in the draft by eFG%:
   
   
5. I would have liked to keep Thomas, but roster spots and PT are tight.
6. Agree with you completely about not trading for Kawhi unless he signs.
7. Agree about patience with Fultz.

Again, I am not suggesting trading for a Kawhi rental (especially not at that price). But if he is willing to sign an extension, then trading Fultz and Covington/Saric is perfectly reasonable for a top 5/10 player in the league.

Fultz showed flashes that he is a great at getting to the basket, which I think we already knew. He showed nothing in terms of shooting, which I think is what people were really wondering. Not to say that he can't get the form back and I am not trying to cast him off, it's just the price of trading for a top player.

Having said all of that, Kawhi's value is also lower than the earlier proposed trades. Unless he says otherwise, any non-LA team will be trading for a rental, which reduces his trade value.

I agree with PhillyChuck, except I wouldn't trade for Kawhi, period. He has either injury or attitude problems, or both. Sign a FA. Hard, I know.

Two things about Zhaire:

1) He seems like a hard worker. If he's committed to improving his shot, then I think he will put in the effort to do so. Add in that he's a good athlete and I think it's reason for optimism.
2) I am wondering if the team could have gotten a similar player in Josh Okogie a little later. Granted, that was a concern when I thought that Zhaire was going #10 and that Okogie could go ~20th and is not so much of a concern where they were actually drafted. Still, Okogie has much better shooting form.

I personally think that Kawhi is worried about maximizing his value and that he has no marketability in SA. I'm not sure how much marketability he actually has and if he'll make enough money off the court in LA to turn down a supermax from SA. Then again, maybe he's saying he wants out in order to force the Spurs to give him a supermax.

I think Paul George would be a great fit in the Sixers and obviously Lebron would be a good fit anywhere. No issue with signing either of them. It will mainly depend on which one wants to come to Philly, if any.

I heard Zhaire Smith told reporters brett brown told him he reminds him of Kawhi Leonard so maybe that was the trade to get him?

I went to bed disappointed but that Miami pick could be a valuable piece down the line or even this offseason in the right trade. There was a very "hinkie" type feel to this draft...

So the 10th pick we got from the lakers generates another 1st round pick...

Rozier was appearing on Bleacher Report's online draft show when he was asked to predict Boston's pick at No. 27. Instead, Rozier FaceTimed Ainge, who answered at the Celtics' practice facility and eventually revealed the upcoming pick.

"I got to draft a point guard," Ainge joked when Rozier, Boston's postseason starter while Kyrie Irving was injured, first asked about the team's selection. Pressed for the actual pick, Ainge answered, "It's going to be Bob Williams, but we're looking at all the medical stuff."

After Thursday's draft concluded, Ainge admitted he was unaware that Rozier was calling during a live broadcast.

Great stuff. Thanks for that. It makes me feel better about the picks. I just think selling on Fultz at rock bottom and including Dario who has got better every year is really dumb.

I saw the original pick and then went out to dinner so I didn't know for two hours. I agree with the Hinkie comparison, including the way they gave seemingly no thought to PR/sentimentality (and I'm okay with that compared to, oh, having a front office that cared desperately about what everyone thought).

I assume they really didn't know 100% that they were going to trade Bridges when they took him. Possibilities may have existed, maybe the deal was even in place if Phoenix got Smith, but any tipping of their hand would have gotten the rumor mill going and signaled something was up to teams 11-15.

Brown said Bridges was 1A, Smith was 1B. Had no intention of trading Bridges, until Phoenix called (repeatedly) and blew them away with an offer.

Think of the trade this way--if, at 3PM yesterday, the Sixers had announced they had moved down 6 spots for an unprotected #1 in what is likely to be the "double-dip" draft year, we'd have cheered lustily and prayed that Smith or Bridges or Bridges or Walker was available at 16. Our prayers were answered. Sixers picking Bridges and then trading him complicates our view emotionally, but not in matter of fact. We came away with our #2 target and a future unprotected #1 pick.

And if you are worried that the Heat pick in 2021 might not be good, it would be. They have no stars on their roster right now, or even stars in waiting, so they are not a destination for "super team" creation. They also did not have a single pick in last nights draft. Their chances of being good by 2020 are remote, much more likely it will be a lottery pick.

They have bad contracts for the next two years, but they could get lucky in the next two drafts, spend some money in 2020, and have a decent team. But I don't think they have any 2nd round picks for 3 years and I agree that it looks like a good asset right now.

It might be, but I think that would be a bad idea. That #1 pick will be an excellent asset in 2021. Colangelo gave away one of the stashed #1s in the Fultz trade. I agree it is too early to write the definitive evaluation of this trade but... if I had a do-over today, I wouldn't make the deal and I believe most posters would not make the deal. It could still work out for us, but the odds are against us. Stick with the plan! There are FAs to be had. I'm not in favor of trading a guy like Saric or a #1 for a big ?.

This statement, no matter how many times you say it, isn't true. If the Kings end up as bad as it seems like they might be and get the #1 pick, we lose our pick.

You also cant make that statement since we still have no idea what Fultz will turn out to be after an offseason to work on his shot. Fultz already showed his athletic ability makes him a dangerous player if his jump shot requires respect.
