Every year I get reminded how laughably poor the NBA system works. They can't approve trades for about 20-30 minutes, so everyone knows about the trade and them it gets announced and you end up with teams making picks for other teams.

Trades involving players in the league already are even worse, they can't happen for a few weeks yet.

The NFL can do it , no reason the NBA cant do it.

And 2021 is the double dip draft--last year of one-and-dones, first year of direct to NBA from HS. Should make it an incredibly deep draft. I wanted them to trade down from #10, but they should have told Bridges to hide in an empty room for an hour so as not to be embarrassed.

I guess if you grade Bridges and Smith out as pretty equal - and I have no idea if they are or if the Sixers do - a (n unprotected??) 1st round pick in 2021 is a great asset to have.

That being said, it was awful PR. Although, it could have been a last minute trade that came to fruition after Bridges was picked, but I tend to doubt that.

Smith has the potential to be a major defensive weapon who uses his remarkable athletic ability to affect that end. The concerns are that he is essentially a 6-5 small forward who can’t create on the offensive end, and that is an odd fit for a 76ers team that lacks perimeter creators.

Shamet had a stellar career for the Shockers, capped off by a 2017-18 season in which he averaged 14.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 boards a game. His main asset is his three-point shot. Shamet (6-5, 189) shot 43.7 percent from long range during his collegiate career, including 44.2 percent last season.

Then they make two more decent picks at 56 and 60 and trade them to the Mavericks for pick 54, PG Shake Milton.

So to sum up the Sixers draft, they had six picks going in (10, 26, 38, 39, 56 and 60).

The end up with pick 16 (SF Zaire Smith), pick 26 (SG Landry Shamet), pick 54 (PG Shake Milton), a 2021 1st round unprotected pick (Miami's) and three future 2nd round picks.

Would have preferred Walker, but Smith is a nice fit in the open court with Simmons and Shamet/Shake can shoot it. All of these moves directly compliment Ben Simmons.

I know fans are going to be upset that Mikal was the pick and they traded for a shorter guy that can't shoot much right now. I always felt there was a bit of redundancy between RoCo and Mikal. Zhaire is going to seem like a weird fit, but he really works in the modern "position-less" NBA. He's a 6'5" player who will be asked to guard just about anyone. This is a good breakdown of his defense:

I'm not thrilled that he can't shoot much right now, but he's going to be a tough matchups for other teams that have to guard Simmons, try to stop Fultz driving to the hoop, and have to guard the perimeter for shooters like Covington, Saric, Shamet, and Shake (and Redick, if he's brought back). Zhaire should have lots of space to cut to the hoop (which is something that I think the Sixers lack a bit and doesn't get talked about much.

Also, if a Kawhi deal is still being kicked around, then keep in mind that a popular trade scenario was Fultz, Saric/Covington, and the #10 pick.

Not only is a future 1st more attractive to the Spurs, but the Sixers would technically come out of that trade with Kawhi and Zhaire. Not saying I make that trade if Kawhi doesn't intend to sign long-term, but it's something that may be more enticing than just the #10 pick.

Don't know much about leonard, i'll leave that to you pundits. but do you think it is a smart idea to trade for a player that was supposedly deemed healthy and then didn't want to play and didn't. do the sixers need that attitude on a young and growing team?
