I think there is a lot of logic in a Phils/Dodgers deal centered around Nola and Bellinger. As far as I understand, Bellinger is good in center, but his speed was down a notch after the broken femur. He’s one of those guys who’s performance you can blame a lot on injuries the last year. In as much as I love the durability and #2-ishmess of Nola, I’ve also seen that enough that I’d never trust him in a game that counts.
Bellinger made 16 million, so their contracts almost cancel each other, but tilted in the favor of Nola. And even with his struggles, Nola came far closer to earning his pay than Bellinger did. So in a swap, the Phils get more back. Ideally, Mitch White would be a durable mlb ready arm, but I don’t trust that he his, and my preference is Bobby Miller.
In that scenario there has to be a fallback rotation option to replace Nola next year, which there isn’t without signing someone for the 15 million they don’t have, so I guess some part of the roster is going to be a hole next year.
