I think the Phillies were pretty smart overall. Improved the team, didn't give up a while lot, didn't exceed the luxury tax threshold. They were hamstrung by not having a deep farm system but kept our better prospects. I might have traded Howard for Crouse straight up.

Too bad the Mets got Baez, but we still have a chance (we didn't have a great one anyway).

Yeah I think we did enough to stay in it through the end at least, and maybe that's its own reward, especially with the addition of two pieces for next year.

Wow - here’s part of the blurb on Crouse:

In bullpen workouts, Crouse looks like he has regained the electric stuff he had when he was last fully healthy in 2018. His fastball sits at 92-97 and reaches 99 with riding life. His slider can be a wipeout pitch with mid-80s velocity and two-plane break, though it was less sharp and he used it less frequently in 2019 because it bothered his elbow.

54 K in 51 IP this year at AA Fresno with a .90 WHIP.

Just about where I am. I think they did a few things today. They improved their pitching both at the MLB level and upper minor league level. Talk all you want about Gibson and Kennedy but they are upgrades how much who knows time will tell I think we upgraded our pitching in the upper minors to. Both Crouse and Ogle are upgrades over what we have in the upper minors. Crouse is a legit top 10 prospect for this team, maybe even top 5. We lost some catching depth in the minors and we lost a AAAA 25yr old who may or may not figure it out in the Majors. We also lost a little pitching depth in the lower minors but hopefully the incoming class helps that by next year. Overall we are better I think. We stayed under the luxury tax because in order to compete with the Braves and Mets next year we are going to need to spend in the offseason. Our farm system is several years away. A Stott here and a Marchan there is what we are going to get and a steady diet of AAAA guys.

Twitter had Crouse more 93-94 typically with his fastball but adding a cutter to give him more command in the strike zone which had been an issue. The slider used to be plus but is not quite as good as a couple of years ago.

All in all though, seems he is a pitcher with stuff to work with. And given the state of our system actually slots somewhere in the 7-12 range for me. Nice bonus and one can only ask "Why?" from the Rangers end are they giving us cash AND a prospect.

So long as they didn't give up Marchand, I think these deals will help the Phils, and convey to the club that management has their back. Over 5 WAR added for, basically speaking, Spencer Howard. Also at least one nifty prospect.

All three of the Braves starting OFs from Opening Day (Acuna Jr., Ozuna, and Pache) are off the active roster for various reasons, plus they just released Ender Inciarte the other day.

I wonder if Segura being out today also played a role in the Galvis trade. He's already been on the IL twice this year, as has Didi, so if either of those things happen again they are better prepared.

I don't see it as obnoxious. It's good to have all this information in one place, especially when so much information is coming in so fast from so many sources. If it was this many posts about, say, contract negotiations for a single player, that'd be obnoxious, but all these posts in this thread makes perfect sense.

Well because MLB is the only place that had Crounse at 9. He is really closer to 19 from all I read.
