The Phillies had bigger ideas in mind for the deadline, but according to multiple sources, they encountered tepid interest in the prospects they were willing to deal. Howard was their best trade chip — and, even then, his value was not what it once was.

So, given Abel and Stott were presumably untouchable, it seems no one else on the list was able to form the basis of a package for anyone else controllable (of note).

I cringe at this stat but hope he can end up being a positive pickup either later this year or more likely next season.

Ogle 6.5BB per 9 inning is this year. 4BB per 9 for career isn't great, but I like this move. 4th round HS pick, lefty, 24 at AAA, trade from position of strength...I can see this guy helping in the future.

Someone asked recently if the Phillies were going to have a Rule 5 crunch and I think between Oegle and Phillips the answer is clearly no. Not that they are both guaranteed to survive the off-season (or even August in Phillips' case), but they've happily added to the pool.

For what it’s worth BA has Crouse at 11 on their Rangers list that they released yesterday morning but that list also included Leiter and two of the Yankees prospects they just got for Gallo. So they basically had him at 8-9 a week ago

I believe I read BA had him at 9 before the trades that put him at 11. He has not been added to BA yet on our side but I think he slides in above Erik Miller who is 8, might even be above Ohoppe who they have at 5.

FWIW Fangraphs had him at 9 before the season with TX and now 7 with the Phillies. They still think he is a bullpen arm though. Seems like a good kid. I just worry the minor arm issues he has had make him more suited to the bullpen though hoping for more.

It has been awhile since we got this type of a bonus in a deal. This reminds me of the Dale Murphy trade. We traded 3 prospects for Murphy and a player to be named later that turned out to be Greene.

Personally I think the Phillies realize that Howard's development was messed up and he probably can't be fixed here (or the secondary theory that his body just could not handle a high velocity starter's workload). Texas seems to value Howard pretty highly given the inclusion of Crouse. One needs to give Dombrowski credit for this. Seems like something that Klentak would not have gotten done.

Howard hurt his shoulder a couple of seasons ago and really hasn’t been the same since. As we saw with Morgan, when a shoulder gets injured, the career is on serious jeopardy.
