Like him more than Gowdy or Gessner. Can't think of what is wrong with him other than he probably needs to be protected this offseason from the rule 5 draft and he may not be ready to help the major league club next year so it would be a tough decision to use a 40-man spot on someone that does not help immediately (like we have done with Morales and Medina).

He was tweeting that he might be re-evaluating Gessner who might be top 30 now. He did not start to pitch till FCL and has actually been quite good the last couple of times out.

Well DD was able to do something constructive without too high ah cost. Seems they made a decision on Howard and that he was disposable. Problem is that Rodgers may not be enough if Eflin can't go. If that is the case, Rodgers just replaces Eflin but does not actually add as a 4/5 starter.

Dallas paper had him 19th in the Rangers system earlier this year. MLB Pipeline still has him 9th but they are always really slow midseason to regrade their lists.

I take that as confirmation we needed a little financial nudge to remain under the competitive balance threshold. We still could have another reliever or two coming our way also.

The #Rangers are also sending about $4 million to the #Phillies , along with these three pitchers, in this trade.

So for now, the Phillies remain safely under the tax threshold.

Gibson replaces Efflin for the time being. Even with VV and Moore still in the rotation, this is a decent upgrade to the rotation and bullpen.
Any upgrades to the defense and lineup? I don't want to see them give up Howard without really improving the team.
