Continue to hear it’s a real buyers market for position players. Lots of stars on market: Bryant, Story, Baez, Rizzo, Turner, Buxton, Marte, Escobar, Gallo, Peralta etc. Hearing of many offers of “B” level prospects for established “A” names. Contenders are focused on pitching.

If it's really a buyer's market we could sure still use the help (though some of those names more than others). I wonder if offering "B" prospects signals a willingness to exceed the CBT (since a better package usually gets the other team to pick up more $) or just a conservative approach in general.

I also wonder what the vaccination status of our position players really is, and if that also factors into their thinking at all. Not that it isn't worth it to buy if an outbreak messes everything up, but rather, that they could use the extra depth if one our starters ends up out for two weeks (again).

I know its two days but between the Anderson deal falling apart and other teams striking deals, it's starting to get a little scary here, like we're going to be the ones still standing when this round of musical chairs ends.

Gray is better than Anderson, but still an expiring contract of a pitcher close to league average. Strange splits in that he has been consistently better this year and over his career at home in Colorado. Not sure what to make of that. $6 million pro-rated salary.

In some ways that doesn't bother me. The market may force them to go really big or really small, and either thing would have been a relevant choice to make on purpose.

But maybe get that Hamels deal done in the meantime.

I find it interesting that Bohm is sitting these last two games. With what Didi is offering at the plate and in the field, I'm not so sure that using AB at 3B and Torreyes at SS wouldn't be a better situation.
There has to be a reason for Bohm sitting. He should be over whatever Covid issues that he recently had. There was that rumor of Bryant for Bohm that was circulating months ago. Of course that would have to have an extension for Bryant resolve before it would happen. With Bryant being a Boras represented, that is no longer an issue for the Phillies. Someone also threw out the idea that the Phillies could take on Heyward to help make a deal with Chicago work. Also that Howard is available. It would be a Dombrowski-ish thing to do; Bohm+Howard for Bryant, Kimbrell and Heyward.

I wondered the same thing. My guess is that Girardi planned to sit Gregorius today with a lefty starting, and that Bohm will be at 3B and Torreyes at SS against Corbin.

I suspect Joe just wanted to ease Bohm back into the line-up, or maybe Torreyes had good numbers against one of the last two pitchers somehow? Otherwise you would think a longer rehab stint might have made sense, but I doubt it has anything to do with trade stuff.

I was a little surprised about Torreyes getting all these extra starts. A L/R platoon with Didi makes sense. Then the question is whether we should sit Bohm when we have a ground ball pitcher going.

They are probably overexposing Torreyes a bit. Maybe there is also some frustration with Bohm and the COVID absence. In a team that really does not catch the ball well, having Torreyes in the lineup is not the worst thing especially when he is in the midst of an atypical offensive year where he has been arguably better than either Didi or Bohm. The offense probably won't last, but it is working for the moment.

I have been thinking that way since he filled in when Didi got sick and then Bohm the same. However, hats off to Torreyes. The guy keeps bringing it every night. I shudder to think where the club would be without him.

I give him credit too. Torreyes with a 700 OPS and good defense is probably close to what Bohm with an 800 OPS and bad defense would be. Of course history says Torreyes can't do that long term, but he is doing it this year while Bohm is failing on his end. It is an entirely rational move from GIrardi which probably says more about how we overvalue good hitters that can't field very well (i.e. Bohm but also Hoskins to some degree).

It’s not just Bohm leaving his offense at home but Didi has been awful. Now JT is in a funk as well. Back coming out of ST, how many phans thought that the bats would be as inconsistent to bad this year? I sure didn’t.

When he was filling in for Didi he was a clear upgrade, and still would be. Filling in for Bohm, like you say, it's a lot closer (but only if Bohm continues to hit like he has since June).

All of it really just highlights how badly we could still use another bat, and how perfect Bryant would be if you don't go get a pure CF.

IMO it also highlights that Didi, Hoskins and Bohm can't all be here next year.

I don't remember the offense being any more fun to watch last year, even though it was more productive in that smaller sample. We're 13th in runs scored, 14th in OPS - firmly middle of the pack which I guess is the definition of inconsistent (much like a .500 team). Last year, 5th in runs, 7th in OPS, so if you had last year's offense and this year's pitching, things would be great. If there wasn't so much money tied up in the offense I would think they'd be more focused on fixing that.

I believe the BA with RISP has dropped from 10th or 11th to 19th just in the past week.
