Scherzer really looks like a good fit for a small market team with prospects (Oakland?). He has like $11 million AAV for the rest of the year but he is owed zero dollars till 2028. The Nats could pay the trade demand kicker and then send him to a small market team way below the threshold that is not looking to spend current year cash.

Would we prefer Hamels or Anderson as a back of the rotation lefty? Not sure either really moves the needle for their postseason chances that much so I think I would prefer Hamels with more upside and risk and zero prospect cost. He would probably force us over the luxury tax threshold though unless he would sign a minimum deal with incentives.

Well, I'd say the reason to prefer Anderson is that he can make twice as many starts, no? I think Hamels has to be your fallback, or your second addition. Especially if Eflin's return is delayed further, the Phillies can't wait around for Hamels' ramp-up.

Marchan not being in the potential Anderson deal makes me think he is the key to negotiating a package for both Rodriguez and Anderson (for Marchan and one of the second tier prospects they are discussing for Anderson).

He's owed about $1M for the rest of the season.

That leaves the Phillies about $3M under the luxury-tax threshold.

The Pirates’ trade of Tyler Anderson to the Phillies has been held up because of an issue (presumably medical) with one of the two players going back to Pittsburgh, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Unclear where talks stand, whether player will be replaced.

Hopefully it gets worked out. Anderson is a nice upgrade over VV. Pineda and Jon Gray are also rumored to be available and would cost a little more. Guessing Rodriquez is no longer in play to the Phillies or he'd been included originally.

For the pen, Rogers (Minn.), Kennedy (Tex.), Graveman (Sea) should be targets - The Cubs will get a mint for Krimbel

Marte or Bryant to the lineup would be awesome, too.

Will be a fun couple more days.
