Harmon Killebrew was one of my first baseball heroes as I followed the sad exploits of the Washington Senators as a kid. I was devastated when "they" took MY Senators and sent them to Minnesota after the 1960 season. I still loved the next bunch of Nats (yes, they were called the Nats due to having been officially the Washington Nationals from 1905-1955, but the fans never accepted the name) and I could never warm up to the Twins. It was like they were traitors to my nine-year-old mind. Anyway, I still loved Harmon except when he faced the Senators. RIP, Killer.

It is strange that after all these years of being an advocate for the Hospice system he got to spend his last few days in its care. In a strange way a fitting end for a truly classy man.

The world is a little less kind today. We all should be so lucky as to live life in the way Killebrew did, my condolences to his friends and family.

Probably my second favorite wrestler of all time (behind Shawn Michaels). Wasn't afraid to wrestle while wearing sunglasses. Truly a lost art.

Macho man was my daughter's favorite wrestler. Those were the good days of WWF when there were good guys and bad guys and we loved the good guys. We still have the videotape of his wedding to Miss Elizabeth, who she adored. She'll be said to hear that both of them are now dead.

Shawn Michaels was her favorite.

Yep. Drug overdose. She was living with Lex Luger at the time and he was arrested, but not charged with her death, just possession of tons of narcotics found in the home.

Mr. SF and my daughter were huge wrestling fans in the 90's. It took a whole wierd turn later with some real overt sex & BDSM stuff during the time Linda McMahon & Stephanie got involved, and we quit watching, but Miss Elizabeth always represented class was a "lady". As a parent, during those days I didn't mind my kid watching it as a "soap opera" because it portrayed decent American values.

I understand what you mean, but I don't think I would ever describe WWF/WWE as "decent American values". Trust me, that is not what they were going for. (and it comes way to close to the dreaded term "family values", which is laughably ridiculous)

RIP Macho Man. I recognize the difference between a "bad guy" character and a real "bad guy". There is nothing to imply that he was anything like his annoying, hate inspiring character. In fact, I would say that being a "bad guy" in those days of Wrestling required more talent, most people are basically nice, it takes some skills to be percieved as something different if you arent.

Macho Man was awesome for the following reasons.

Already mentioned. He wore sunglasses while he wrestled.
He had the first main girlfriend in WWF history.
Macho Man, hands down, gave the best interviews. Look at some of them on youtube if you get the chance.
His voice was amazing.
His thinning hairline, later covered up by a bandana was pretty funny.

I skimmed the comments about the Macho Man--Did I over look it mentioned he is believed to have had a heart attack prior to the car crash and his current wife was unharmed in the crash?

I disagree that it was harder back then to be the bad guy in professional wrestling than it is now, but either way Savage was great. I think I shall now go snap into a Slim Jim in his honor.

Well, this is depressing news. I watched happened to see a couple of Splittorff's games one season and he won them both. I thought the guy ought to just leave tickets for me at will call whenever he pitched. RIP
