Like I said Kerkering is gonna need to step up if Seranthony isn't right.
Strahm has not been doing the long appearances as often this year because he's higher in the pecking order. And because they do still play match-ups even though he's one of the better guys for both.
The Russian roulette metaphor applies to anyone's second inning as much as a new pitcher.

I absolutely hate pitching most of the bullpen for only one inning per game. At most, there should only be a few one inning relievers and at least half of the pen should be able to pitch 2 or 3 innings per game routinely.
Kerkering was extremely lucky to not blow the lead and he did cut it in half.
Time to score some more runs.

That's just not the game in 2024, both with what they know about match-ups and the kind of stuff relievers throw. And there's really no reason to assume that a pitcher who just sat in the dug-out for a half-inning is going to come back for a second inning against a completely different set of hitters in the same way he did in the previous one. A fresh arm with a specific match-up is no better or worse. It is also hindsight, whether it goes wrong or right.
