Becton failed as a tackle with the Jets because his footwork was bad in open space. That hasn't improved...Becton should be a career guard. I'd think we draft Lane's replacement this year.

Guards play in a phone booth where size and strength are at a premium. Best place for him.

More than in 2017/8 or 2022/3, I'm feeling quite sad at the end of this Eagles' season. Next years' team will inevitably be different, with about 20% of the roster turning over (sometimes a bit more). I think this is easily the best Eagles' team of my lifetime, and probably the most likable. A lot of that is due to Saquon, who repeatedly has earned deserved praise for his humanity as well as his football skills, and a lot of my emotional response is due to Vic and the "personality" of his defense, too. Baun and Dean are easy to like, and the rookie corners are fun to watch and easy to like, too. I love how Q talked smack to AJ in camp, and I love how DeJean communicates on the field and plays so physically. It really is true, football teams have, more than most sports, a one-year lifetime, they don't really "run it back," it's a new group and a new personality the following year. Similar, but not the same. I hope Siriani has a new message for them next season that resonates as well as this year's. And I hope Howie does his usual great job signing guys (Baun is a must) and drafting.

When playing at its best, the 2024/5 Eagles were one of the best teams ever, not just one of the Eagles' best. I'm sorry I don't have one of their games to watch this weekend!

I absolutely enjoyed this team too, In particular how they played better as a unit than as a collection of individuals, however my perspective about the end of the season is slightly different. I’m happy and relieved that the season is over with this team celebrating the championship that they deserved. Sports can be cruel and the better team does not always finish on top. It’s a relief and joy for me that the best team finished first this season and I’m happy to rewatch some of their playoff wins during the offseason.

I was actually feeling a little sad this morning about the Phillies! Was thinking about how we thought they'd be back in the WS after 2022, and no one really even expected the Eagles to be in the Super Bowl that same year. Mostly it's personal, I just like baseball that much more, but having been out of town for the parade I thought to myself, "I will certainly be there if there's a Phillies parade again" while also not leaving out that "if."

A lot more youth and affordability on this team compared to most repeat Super Bowl contenders I reckon, even if there are still some tough moves ahead. Baun will be interesting. Does Fangio have the juice to make sure that gets done? Will he take less money? Or will the Eagles revert to their usual philosophy on paying LBs?

I like that draft a lot, but I probably trade back with #1 and get a future pick and probably take Mason Taylor.

You didn't mention Hurts, who is vital to the team.

The Eagles are going to crush it next year.

I agree this has been a very likable team. There really isn’t a single player I dislike.

We also have 22 good starters. There is nobody that “needs to be replaced”. Burka is really a backup, some others sometimes do silly things (CJGJ), but he is trying to win and makes plays. Of the 22 I don’t know who is “the worst”, there really isn’t one. Slay? Jordan Davis?

The next few years should be a crap-load of fun. The core of our team is extremely young due to the crazy success rate on drafts. Hurts is still only 26, Barkley easily has 3-4 years left in him, the OL is insane, even with Johnson nearing retirement, our defense is a bunch of young guys running around making plays.

Baun is an absolute must-sign
I almost feel like Becton is too. Maybe Stoutland can fix his issues with playing Tackle, but even if he can’t, he is a future all-pro guard.
Jordan Davis is an extension candidate if only because he keeps Carter from losing his mind.

The Saints are going to interview Eagles passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Christian Parker for their defensive coordinator vacancy, SI’s Albert Breer reported. And they are going to interview Eagles quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier for their offensive coordinator vacancy, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.

I read they were going to interview Patullo so it might actually be good if they take Nussmeier, who has been with Moore at every stop. Though if he's not their OC he could still be associate head coach and QB or something.

The 2017 team definitely felt more charmed, had more of a magical feel to it and was probably more of a proverbial "feel good story".. Plus, there was that first Super Bowl win--though not first championship if you include the pre-Super Bowl era--after failing to win that trophy for so darned long which created a feeling which can never be duplicated, just as 2008 probably didn't have that same specialness as 1980. And, their win came over a genuinely despicable Patriots team backed by its fandom's Boston arrogance so it really felt good to knock them off their perch.

The 2024 team was just really, really good and kept getting better and was special in its own way. The Chiefs, though a dominant team in its own right, didn't score nearly as high as those Patriot teams on the despicability scale.

One more thing: if you include the pre-Super Bowl era championships, the Eagles now have just as many championships as the Cowboys and Commanders f/k/a Redskins with five.

Also, many of the prime candidates for an OC position were already scooped up this hiring cycle by other new head coaches who have been building their staffs.

Yeah that's the thing the serious candidates were few and if you are the Chiefs or the Texans (who both have hot QB coaches) you'd have to be suspicious of the process.

FWIW

The Eagles say they complied with Rooney Rule requirements to interview at least two minority and/or women for the vacancy, but did not immediately supply names. A league source two weeks ago said the Eagles were not interested in hiring former Eagles OC Frank Reich, who also was Sirianni’s boss in Indianapolis; at least, not for the coordinator’s job. However, the Eagles might consider adding Reich as an adviser.

I think this is very different from last time. Johnson was a lot less experienced and was as much Jalen's guy as Nick's.
