I dunno, I think Packers are a better team with more proven QB and coach, not that the Commanders haven't given us trouble (but the last game kind of doesn't count). They (the Pack) have only lost to the three best teams in the NFC, even if Commanders mostly lost to good teams too.

Eagles are much better than they were in Brasil though.

Tampa wouldn't be easy either despite their record. But we can still hope for the Rams. Or for either the Bucs or Vikings to knock off Detroit.

PS, Jags fire Doug, Colts keep Steichen.

Eagles have never made it to the Super Bowl without a bye week, including 2022 when this current format was already in place (but they were #1).

This was inevitable. Even if they don't want to hire him, they will want to pick his brain about how the Eagles do things.

Maybe they think Saquon comes as part of the deal...

Bears are asking about McCarthy too, which would make him a candidate to go back to Dallas.

Hayes is still writing about Sirianni's job security (including whether they're let him go just to keep Moore) but even with Nick's personality flaws, when you look at the coaching situations of so many other teams (both contenders and pretenders) I don't think they should take him and his winning percentage for granted.

They might well miss Moore more than Sirianni. Moore has worked well calling plays for both Hurts and now McKee. I think both QBs would benefit from consistency in signal callers. When you mention Nick's personality flaws, that's a major detriment for a head coach in a system where he is now basically the executive coach with his coordinators calling plays and setting the overall playbook and strategy to an unusually large degree. It is difficult to understand Sirianni's exact role, apart from title.

Maybe but that could all fall apart if Moore became the HC. We have no idea how he would do in that role or how it would affect his effectiveness as the play-caller. And we do know the team just wins with Sirianni. The success is not in spite of him and both the chemistry and coaching issues from last year are corrected. I'm not sure a team where the coordinators or the QB are more accountable to Howie than the HC is recipe for a long-term success either (and never has been).

Fangio, on the other hand, seems to have picked up the Eagles' successful tradition of basically running his own program, but wouldn't necessarily be a good choice for HC.

I get that if they lose to the Packers it will be a topic, but I don't think it should be, any more than it should have been for Thomson this off-season. If they lose either or both coordinators that could be a problem, as it was last year. But that just means you have to get the hires right, replace the HC to avoid it.

I think it's a huge mistake to let Moore leave. They have to make him HC. The Eagles' success this season is due to Fangio, Moore, and Barkley. Without Moore, Hurts has to struggle through another season where he has to learn a new system again.

There's no telling if he'll really leave. They can also try and make it worth his while to stay, including an heir apparent type thing.

To even contemplate Siranni getting fired is to assume that the Eagles will be losing one of their next two games and if that happens Moore and Hurts are probably not going to look good either (or Hurts will not have played).

That's what bothers me the most. I don't think the Eagles will lose those games, which makes it nearly impossible to fire Sirianni, which means Moore leaves for an HC position.

It doesn't necessarily mean that though. Just the long playoff run alone may limit his opportunities, and he's one of a half-dozen candidates in New Orleans. And if you're him, do you want to be the next Kliff Kingsbury or Matt Nagy, likely to fail with a less reliable franchise (though the Saints are certainly a step up from the Bears or Cowboys), or stick around here with a chance to win multiple Super Bowls and eventually become head coach?

The fact that neither of the former Eagles coordinators have done that well (and that those teams had to wait until the Super Bowl that year) likely works against him too. Heck, the fact that Reich and Pederson have also failed since leaving shows how much working for the right owner and GM matters.

I would hope Moore understands that working in a first class organization like the Eagles benefits his career and that these current HC job openings are career dead ends.

I understand there are a limited number of chances to be a HC, but the organization, ownership and management really matter to success and I would hope Moore is smart enough to realize that.

Meanwhile Fangio says he's not looking to be a HC at the moment (that's the kind of comment that often comes back to bite you, but he's also not a trendy candidate).

I'm surprised people want to let Siriani go. Pretty successful. I don't think he will have any trouble finding another job. They might get their wish. There is a lot of talk downplaying the opponent in this first game. Hurts, if he can play will be rusty. I think the Tush Push is out of playbook. his accuracy will be tested as will his avoidance of the blitz. I hope they can win with their defense. AS disappointed as I was with the phils season ending (I thought they had a good chance to win it all), I can see the disappointment creeping again after a first round knockout.

gm, the tush push is fine, it's not concussion-generating play. I think Hurts will actually be sharp. It's up to the scout defensive team to give him game-like reads.

I don't 'want' to get rid of Sirianni. I do think Moore is more important to the team's success than Sirianni is. As I said upthread, it's unclear what Sirianni's role actually is. Unlike most head coaches, he did not get to pick his assistants for this season, he doesn't call plays on either O or D, he doesn't appear to be a consistently positive sideline presence.

Why I favor Moore over Sirianni despite Sirianni's record: Sirianni picked last year's coordinators and coaches --the season started well, but when things went south, Sirianni and his chosen staff were totally unable to right the ship; if Kellen Moore leaves, I don't trust Sirianni to bring in a suitable replacement; Sirianni seems stubborn about doing things his way and I think the league has figured out his RPO offense and it no longer is a plus; and I think Hurts is more bonded with Moore than Sirianni -- the media blows up every possible conflict, but there certainly seemed to be at least significant tension between the QB and head coach. The Eagles' return to success after the collapse last season looks (obviously in my eyes) due way more to Howie's trades and the coordinators selected by Howie than ti does to Sirianni.
