If you want to play this game, then Hurts would not have blamed this on Slim and Slim would have 100% blamed this on himself... even though he normally makes this catch.

The Eagles didn't need this game and it had terrible consequences.

Weird year. Barkley drops a gimme pass or we beat Atlanta. Smith does them same today. 2 guys that are absolutely clutch, just a bad time to lose concentration.

You can see Smith did the classic “took his eyes off the ball” on the catch. Everyone makes mistakes, it happens, just bad timing. There were other plays that would have helped, but this is the one that stood out as clear win/lose (tackling Daniels on 4th and 11 also)

I completely agree. And while Smith should have caught it (and usually does), this game almost did not matter and they gave up so much for it.

Pickett just isn’t a viable option.

That's not really Pickett's fault. Goedert is still out, there's really no great #3 WR and sure, he's still the back-up (plus he can't challenge a defense the same way, or occupy a spy). He played well enough to win especially considering he was likely hurt himself (at one point McKee was warming up). Smith makes that catch or CJ stays in the game and they probably win.

That was Smith’d first drop of the season. Kinda hard to complain, he has had a very good season (again)

The problem with Pickett is that despite having a few years in the league he still stares down receivers, just like rookies do. The distribution to receivers doesn’t have to be even, but it has to be more than this. He had other guys available on some plays, but forced the ball to Brown multiple times. Even good throws were not smart, there was a 1st down late in the game that he forced the ball to a double covered Smith, luckily Smith ran a route that they couldn’t cover.

I don't blame Pickett at all for this. I watched call after call for handoffs that were stuffed, because Washington had so many run defenders they would have to be extremely unlucky for them not to be stuffed. That was extremely timid play calling and put Pickett in a bad situation time after time. He made a lot of good plays. I agree Smith has had an excellent season, but that was a solid throw and a throw to the open receiver. Not on Pickett. That one was on Smith, good as he has been this year. Pickett likely gets little time with the starters in practice. If he has to start next week, and Hurts shouldn't be rushed back, Pickett should be more in sync with his receivers. The Eagles don't have a good third wide receiver.

The 4th Qtr D just wasn't good.

Oh, I agree, that play was completely on Smith, Pickett made a good throw, my point was just we can get too upset at Smith, 1st drop of the year and there were other plays that would have won the game also (not covering the guy in the end zone, allowing 4th and 11 to convert, etc).

My problem with Pickett is that he doesn’t read defenses at all and simply threw to the guy he was staring down from the snap. It is the same issue he had with the Steelers. He has a strong arm, makes some good throws, but he doesn’t come off receivers, he just keeps waiting for the one guy he is reading to get open. It is who he is, reason why he is a backup.

When that one guy is Brown or Smith they will get open some of the time and he delivers the ball. He just can’t improvise (except to run).

I'm generally not a fan of NFL officiating, but most of the time during a game the mistakes roughly even out. Yesterday felt like a game where the fix was in. It was widely reported prior to theme that gambling money was heavily on the Eagles, as high as 90% in some of the large books. The unsportsmanlike call on CJGJ, shortly followed by a ridiculous PF on Carter, the absence of a call on the Hurts injury hit (admittedly a 50/50 call), the picked up flag on the Pickett hit, the missed false start on the Commander's scoring play, the three missed PI calls on AJ (two of which were 50/50, but one of which was obvious, and the ejection call on CJGJ were all really one-sided. Even the announcers, who were generally rooting for a close game and therefore pro Washington, said a few of those calls were things they had never seen before. That game looked like dishonest officiating. Those calls led to a pro-Washington swing of about 20 points, and the Eagles got very few questionable calls in their direction. The bookies were very, very happy, and probably increased their ad buys on NFL games in the aftermath. It makes it really hard to watch NFL football. And even with all that, the Eagles should have won. I really can't blame the team.
