Oh, I agree, that play was completely on Smith, Pickett made a good throw, my point was just we can get too upset at Smith, 1st drop of the year and there were other plays that would have won the game also (not covering the guy in the end zone, allowing 4th and 11 to convert, etc).
My problem with Pickett is that he doesnât read defenses at all and simply threw to the guy he was staring down from the snap. It is the same issue he had with the Steelers. He has a strong arm, makes some good throws, but he doesnât come off receivers, he just keeps waiting for the one guy he is reading to get open. It is who he is, reason why he is a backup.
When that one guy is Brown or Smith they will get open some of the time and he delivers the ball. He just canât improvise (except to run).
