If the Eagles are as good as they have looked neither the Steelers at home nor the Commanders on the road should be a problem. If they aren't, both games are.

Okay, the only thing I said incorrectly was that if the Lions lose a few games, the Eagles would win. I stand corrected. My point to el-pietro was that there is no strategy to solidify the 2nd seed except to win each game.

Sure. Not right now. My suggestion is keep playing to win every game for the next few weeks but maybe ease off Saquon a little where you got opportunities, and then by game 15/16/17 start to prioritise health/playoff readiness over winning that specific game.
Though I realise now those last three are all divisional so maybe they have to play all out until the division is clinched which would be game 15 at the earliest most likely

Goedert to the IR. He hasn't missed a ton of games over his career, but it seems like he's always injured. Do the Eagles look for a TE in the draft? Sorry, I don't want to talk about the draft, more about what his role means to the offense and if they might be concerned long term.

If you look at how the Eagles brought Goedert along with Ertz, now would be the time to draft our future TE.

I saw an article on this very subject yesterday with the headline "Will Eagles Replace Goddert with TE pick in 1st Round" and a blurb projected the Eagles picking Warren from Penn State with a 30th pick (there goes the Super Bowl).

I mention this only because I clicked (my mistake) on the article posted by some guy without a publication associated with his name, and he showed what 6 publications (PFF, Sporting News, USA Today etc) showed as their projected pick for the Eagles. 3 of 6 had an Edge, 2 OT, 1 CB. But none had a TE - or Warren. Despite the banner headline.

I think I had just looked at an article about Goedert's injury and shazam, up popped the draft headline. Serves me right for clicking.

It's not like he's missed half a season before (although he will this year), but he has missed handful of games before and even when he does play isn't always healthy. Still very talented and a very good player. The team definitely misses him when he's out.

I don't want to get into draft stuff just yet (although right now it seems like not a bad time to talk about it since hopefully we are just worried about seeding over the next few weeks). Warren looks great, but he's also a redshirt SR? If he slips it might be because of his age. His versatility would probably fit in well in the Eagles offense, though. As good as the offense is, TE and WR are incredibly thin.

As far as draft articles, I think there was a lot of talk about how the Eagles would be looking to take the center from Oregon last year to replace Kelce when they already drafted his replacement. I tend to not worry about draft chatter as it's mainly speculation or misinformation. Not saying the Eagles won't take an Edge, but they just traded for one (unfortunately) and have drafted 2 of them recently. I could see OL, but I am 100% fine if Dickerson takes over for RT and they wait for a LG.

i usually only look forward to the draft when the season leaves something to be desired. If they win the super bowl i don't care if they waste their first pick on me. That said, since you asked, I think it depends on who they are able to bring back and who they possibly sign, and i don't think that howie will be in a position where he needs to fill an immediate need in the draft. I have felt like the last two drafts he might draft an understudy for Lane Johnson and I agree that he might be ready to draft an understudy for Goedert and (crazy i know what they did in 2024) Slay.

Pending free agents include josh sweat, BG, zack Baun, milton williams, fred johnson (has been great fill in), isaiah rodgers, devonte maddux, tuipulotu, and becton.

Lane Johnson, BG and Darius Slay are most likely the closest to retirement.

Lane & Becton & Johnson leaving would leave a huge need at OL.
Sweat, BG leaving would leave a huge need at edge. (At this point Huff is a minus and Hunt is a plus)
Maddux needs to be replaced. Rodgers, Maddux and Slay leaving could open the possibility for another young CB.
DT may lose some valuable depth.
TE is a need, maybe not a first round need but a first three round needs. Seems like they have flirted with potential the last few years looking for someone to step up and maybe they do need to spend draft capital.

Well, when you pick 32nd you have to go on availability also.

TE and DE have to be our 2 biggest needs, with Lane Johnson’s replacement a big need also.

A few places don't have Warren as high. I tend to favor Mason Taylor because of age and projected draft position.

To Docs point, I have always liked Milton Williams and think he needs to be brought back. Also, Steen might have been an understudy to Lane, but it's tough to tell. Like Dickerson, Steen can potentially play anywhere on the line. Not sure I'd consider BG an EDGE, but he can obviously come back if he wants. Maddox can leave, Rodgers can stay. I think you need to bring Baun back, but it depends on the money and I think he qualifies for what will likely be a high comp pick, which is a highly useful signing if you can pay a little over $1M and get that much production and a good comp pick out of it.

I sure hope they don't draft a TE that high. Brock Bowers was taken at pick 13, and Trey McBride was the 30th pick, but Gronk, Kelsey, Kittle, Ertz, and Goedert were all very low round picks. It doesn't make sense to use the first rounder on a TE.

Vernon Davis was taken 6th. It entirely depends on the talent and how you plan to use it.

My point is that the vast majority of successful TE's are taken in low rounds. If the Eagles planned to use a TE as frequently as as they use Saquon, then perhaps it's worth it.

Gronk, Ertz, and Goedert were definitely not taken in low rounds.

I'm not even saying you are wrong. Pitts will probably be viewed as a miss although I think the team might be a reason because of that. TE, like RB, has been devalued for a while. And I agree with some of that, but I also think that "reaching" for some talent that other teams may devalue is not a terrible idea. Especially if Goedert has a year left and the Eagles seemingly have no good option behind him.

I am not a draft nerd like some of you guys (and therefore don't read many mocks especially this time of year) but Athletic has Warren going 23rd.

Of course there's another Nittany Lion who would make sense in Carter but that would require a big trade-up.

If Tyler Warren is still there when the Eagles draft I would pick him. He has the potential to be what Barkley is to running backs as a TE. Superman #2 !!
