Eagles 2023-2024 Season

If the Eagles make most or all of these picks they are probably going to look odd. I think we are at the point where we are going to be drafting projects that WILL be able to be passed through to the Practice Squad.

We probably have a spot for 1-2 OL and certainly a LB, but that is about it. (Maybe a RB and DL). We are getting to where anyone we draft is displacing an equally talented young player on the active roster.

bk, I don't see their draft targets as displacing players on the roster--I think the Eagles want to create competition for spots. For example, at CB now they have

two or three of these guys will make the practice squad, and others, including Bradberry and Maddox, might get released based on their play (and the coaches' evaluation of their previous play). They might actually trade out of this surplus for a pick next year.

I still see needs at LB, TE, RB, OL, and you can always use extra d-Line guys.

I was looking at that this morning and don't think they can carry all 10 draft picks. At this point in the draft, maybe they could bump some OL/LB/RB/WR/TE off the roster. Maddox might not be a lock now, and I think Covey is going to be replaced as a return specialist.

I don't think they need to replace Covey, he was one of the best punt returners last season. DeJean also is a return specialist, but if he ends up being a starting safety or cornerback, he probably won't also return kicks.

Covey was one of the best PRs in the league last season, I'd be careful replacing him. I don't think you want DeJean returning punts if he's a key piece of the defense, either. Maybe Rogers, but it's not certain he's as good as Covey.

I'd like Jones with a trade-up in round 4, and a LB and a TE...I like any of the TEs who can block, like Johnson from PSU and Stover, or Sanders who has crazy athletic skills and size. Everyone seems to want Trotter for the story, but I just want the LB they consider the best. Many fans are high on Franklin the WR it appears. We have the ammo to move up a couple of times...

I thought Maddox played very well last year and that his tackling saved some wins. When he was lost to injury his loss was obvious. Isn't Garner a safety? Yes, some of these guys will be on taxi squad, but it is easy for another team to snatch them from taxi squad. Bradberry was good only two years ago and his cap hit is so big that I doubt he is cut.

Bradberry is a problem, since they need to play him to justify the salary, but he's pretty clearly not one of their top 3 or 4 CBs right now based on last year. One of the podcasts was saying the cost to cut him isn't that high when compared ot the cost of keeping him, so he might indeed be cut. I wonder if they are exploring trades. I would keep the two draftees, Slay, Jobe, Ricks, Rogers, and Ringo (and maybe McPhearson, based on his special teams play alone) ahead of Bradberry.

I love Maddox, but there is no chance he doesn't get reinjured again, and I think the Eagles will not want to take the injury risk.

Christian Jones, Ja'Tavion Sanders, and Trotter seem the best hole fillers. I'm not sure what to make of McLachlan, whom Jeremiah rates just above Jones, but who's already the ancient mariner at age 25. Brugler had Sanders as his #2 TE prospect, but pointed out an outlandish number of required improvements. At least, at age 21 hee has time to be developed.

On Bradberry: they don't need to play him to justify his salary. He can start the early games while the new draftees adjust to the Eagles D system. if he isn't better than the newbys after a few games, he can be the backup. It's cheaper cap-wise to keep Bradberry than to cut him or trade him. The Eagles had two bad defensive coordinators last year. I'll give Bradberry a season to redeem himself under the new system.

PC, no I wasn't speaking about Hunt ( he is an interesting prospect). I was talking about 2 of those guys I mentioned could have been drafted, if they would have stayed at 50 and 53. instead of the trade for DeJean. DeJean better be worth it.

RB Jaylen Wright looks like what I would like them to get. He is a HR threat RB, which honestly none of our guys really are (Barkley is not the speedster he once was). Adding that threat would be nice.
