Honestly we are probably that desperate for secondary help. Blankenship is a great story, but is he really very good? He flashes at times. Brown ended the season with a leg injury. We are very thin (obviously draft will add at least one).

We probably still need a CB despite our young guys.

Chargers had to release WR Mike Williams due to cap issues. He is coming off a torn ACL, so you might be able to sign him to a one year deal. If I were the Eagles, I would look into it. He would be a great # 3 receiver for them.

So, doing a quick 53 man in my head the Eagles still need a backup QB, two RB, two WR, two OL, two LB, and a S. They could also use improvement at CB. If they are going to trade Reddick or Sweat, that will open another roster spot. They can address several of the open spots still in free agency and certainly in the draft.

I was wondering how much of a chance they would give McKee, or at least how big they might go to bring in another QB. Journeyman? Draft flier? Saw some talk (on Inquirer) of trading a low pick for Justin Fields.

Fields would be a Howie move for sure. They could use him during the game in some heavy run packages and spare the damage to Hurts. I have no idea if Fields would be difficult to deal with in that scenario, though...

Well if someone wants to give Fields a bigger role they'll make a better trade offer. Or maybe he just gets released. But I don't see it as an especially splashy move, nor do I think he'd get much action. More about avoiding the situation they had in '22, where the back-up QB didn't play the same style as Hurts and didn't fit the offense. Ideally meaningful playing time never comes into it.

Fields has a 6m cap hit with the Bears and a twenty plus million option for 2025. If traded I’m not sure what the cap hit is to the new team, but that fifth year option is not going to be picked up. So i don’t understand the fields do Philly rumors unless there is an extension in place. No need to give up picks for a back up qb.

Fields would be expensive for a backup, but only a million more than Mariotta was last year. There is not much left in the free agent market for backup QB. I mean, Tannehill, Garapolo and Flacco aren't Hurts-like backups, the closest available is probably Tyler Huntley. So if you could get Fields for a 5th, that would be better than Huntley and better than any draft pick you'd get at that draft spot. I don't think McKee is ready to back up Hurts.

Here is what I would do to fill the roster, trade a 5th rounder for QB Justin Fields, bring back RB Boston Scott for one more year, draft a RB. Sign WR Mike Williams to an incentive laden 1 year deal and draft a WR. Draft a backup T, bring back Opeta. I would hold on to Sweat and Reddick and just let their contracts play out. I would sign LB Devin White and draft a LB. I would draft a S, I would draft a CB.

As for the draft, I would look for a CB in the first round, T and LB in the second, S in the third, RB and WR in the 5th, best available in the 6th.

The Eagles need a better #3 WR, but not Williams. He is too expensive and won't be happy as a #3. This would just increase last season's problems with fights over ball touches. I think we badly need a legit #2 TE even more than a new #3.
I could see acquiring and developing Fields, with a goal of early season insurance and then a flip for more than we pay to get him.

The handwriting seems on the wall that only one of Sweat/Reddick will be returning. If that's the case, we need to get a DE/blitzing LB with a second round pick -- first round DE possible..

As far as Williams being unhappy as a #3, he'd be an incredible slot receiver, Moore likes to line up sometimes with 5 receivers. I think he could still get the ball enough, just one more guy that would be difficult to cover, they would not be able to double any of the receivers. As far as a better # 2 tight end, all the good free agent tight ends have signed, so not sure one is out there, unless you get a good one in the draft, but draft picks aren't usually great right away. I think Calcaterra might take a step forward this year and be the # 2.

I keep hearing pundits on TV saying that Sweat doesn't fit Fangio's scheme and that he is going to run a 3-4 defense which Reddick would fit well. If that's the case, there is a lot more of the defense that would need to be overhauled to run a legit 3-4 defense, so I'm not sure they won't still run a 4-3.

White = great athleticism, great pedigree (5th pick in his draft), bad instincts (ends up where he shouldn't be a lot). Inexpensive contract.

Howie the cap master continues. We are the only team that somehow finds any money we need.

How much is he worth?

White is not perfect, but given the complete lack of skill we have at LB it is a home run. We desperately needed a LB, even if it is only part time. Dean is still an unknown, playing Smith and Reddick (if on the team) at LB is just putting a pass rusher in a fake LB position (they are both useless in coverage). We were getting slaughtered last year in the middle of the field in passing downs, maybe with White’s speed he can sometimes get in the way and maybe run down RB
