It seems an overpay for a RB on the downside of his career. I wouldn't have spent this much on a RB.

Well he certainly cost them more than Swift. More than they wanted to pay Sanders too. But I imagine they believe he has two peak seasons left in him and after that who cares, I guess.

Perhaps 2 good seasons. Peak is behind him. as good and getting less healthy last season.

The theory seems to be that running behind the Eagles line will rejuvenate him, but the Eagles may not have a premiere run-blockiing line without Kelce. It's plus PR and should sell lots of merchandise, but if our O-line takes a step back, then this isn't a good bet. They probably think Saquon's presence will open more running lanes for Hurts.

Not that impressed so far with FA.

We signed a pass rush specialist and a RB with a lot of mileage on the tires. Oh, and a special teams LB.

Hopefully, Huff can play the run at least decently and Barkley stays healthy.

Roseman failed to sustain the team's success after 2017 which led to the 2020 implosion. This is his second shot. The first part of the season looked promising, but the epic collapse, retirements and now this first day of FA inject plenty of skepticism.

I love Barkley. One of my favorite players of all-time, even his time with the Giants didn't change that.

Love that they got him and not worried about the money. Eagles have a ton of cash to spend this year which is all that matters. Only suckers worry about the cap.

You always have to worry about the cap, every dollar spent on one thing is a dollar not spent on another no matter how much you have left to spend. But if Barkley is a premium running back it's probably money well-spent. And the Eagles offensive line doesn't have to be premium for it to be considerably better than the line he ran behind last season.

Still a considerable change in philosophy. What next, overpay for a linebacker?

Seems like the team is going to rise or fall on the young defensive players. Presumably one of Sweat and Reddick is gone and one isn't?

Last year, Barkley went from being in the top 5 in the league in broken tackle percentage to the bottom 5, and went from being near the top of the league in yards after contact to being near the bottom. Neither of those things are due to the bad Giants offense or defenses keying on him. I think he's at least semi-cooked; to me, it's pretty clear he's not a premium running back any more.

I hope I'm wrong, and he finds the fountain of youth in Philly. But it's a bet I wouldn't have made.

I think the Eagles can afford to not lean heavily on Barkley as well. If they can get more bang for the buck with fewer carries, this may work out.

I’m concerned about the team losing both sweat and Reddick. Especially since off-season trades usually don’t return valuable draft picks. I’m holding out hope that the Eagles are allowing their edges to test the market while under contract, and if they don’t get a reasonable return in a trade, let them walk for a comp pick next year rather than trade them for afterthought draft picks like the Panthers just got.

Some of the nuances of this stuff in the NFL escapes me but I got the feeling that while Reddick wants to explore his market, the Eagles wanted Sweat to explore his? Seems like they don't necessarily want to carry both of them cap-wise but could maybe renegotiate with one?

I am fine with not signing Quinn. I liked him coming out of college, but he only started looking good in the pros when Roquan Smith joined the team.

Living in New England, Parker was a zero with the Pats who actually paid for the right to cut him.

It is a no risk signing, but this is dumpster diving at best. I really hope Roseman has a better plan for WR depth. We need an upgrade and his usual grazing in the bargain bin is not enough.

If we cannot develop one which seems to be clear by now, then invest some real capital in a better solution.

No clue on how good the contract is, but he's an improvement to the secondary.
