Well, that's a good point, and he is still a civil suit defendant too. But history says his suspension won't be long enough to scare off any teams. (I mean, it's not like he made a few bets on the Internet! )

I'm going to guess at least a half season suspension and possibly the whole thing stays in limbo until at least first civil suit or its depositions are finished and the NFL has that info. Btw, I don't think this is like Cosby situation. The grand jury didn't indict, but I don't think any promise against future indictment, which means info from civil suit can be used to get an indictment. So, how does Watson handle his deposition? Lie and face potential perjury charge? Keep pleading the 5th? Tell the truth? What does he tell NFL investigators?

I've had that happen a dozen times over the years (including tonight). I assume it just means something is being done on the site (or some other part of infrastructure) briefly.

I mean, he already missed an entire season. They could tack as few as two games onto that, and six would be high compared to other violent offenders. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that is right and I don't care if he ever plays again, because I certainly don't view the grand jury as the last word here. But the way the rumor mill is already gearing up it sounds like any number of teams would be ready to trade for him next week.

Him missing the whole season was a penalty by the Texans, not the league and he still got paid.

I'm just cynical about it. It's true they'd have to suspend him longer from a financial perspective but I would still think he and his agent would argue that was punitive. I mean, I'd like to think times have changed and in some ways they have but in other ways not so much.

Question is, what number of games actually lowers his trade price. Truth is it's actually better for the Eagles if he's A) cheaper and B) not as attractive to teams trying to win it all this year.

In any case, I was happy to see an article saying our interest in Watson had declined. A low-character team leader can do a lot of damage.

Is this actually true if the reasons are outside of the team dynamic? Watson is likely a top-5 QB in the league. I understand not wanting the Eagles to acquire him, but he would greatly improve the team.

He is bound to get into further legal trouble. He is also bound to again demand a trade if the Eagles don't advance in the playoffs this season. The trade asking price is steep, he has missed a year, I think he is suspended for more games -- we very well may miss the playoffs with him this year. Then the crap begins. We got lucky with Vick. I'd rather not press our luck. Big names Terrell and Alshon at WR wound up hurting the team, because of their personality issues. Why buy trouble at a huge cost in $ and cheap talent?

I guess I am of the opinion that compared to recently traded QBs he is going to be cheap. I am also of the opinion that Hurts has a decent amount of trade value.

Well, I'm not sure if it is just pablum for public consumption, but all the players seem to love Hurts, so there could be some team fissures with Watson if the trade for him.

I am a huge Hurts fan as a player and he seems like a great person. The team needs a new system if they are going to keep him. That being said, Watson is most likely the better player. I also don't remember Watson being a bad teammate. There is a big difference between the public opinion and team opinion.

It'll be over fast. I suspect the combination of the off-field issues, the possible suspension and the still-high price will keep the Eagles away, especially since they still have a stake in Hurts, and a year to see if he's the guy. Plus Watson has to approve any trade. Just by trading for him the Eagles would be a less attractive team to Watson (i.e. they won't be able to add as much drafted talent around him).

Pittsburgh should probably get him, we already know that fan base doesn't care about the off-field stuff.

I don't think the Texas would want Hurts, they seem to like Davis, so they would want at least two of the Eagles first rounders, and I would only be willing to give the one and it would be 19. This is not a case for an overpay like for Stafford or Wilson, there is the contract and the risk, so the Texans will be lucky if they get a big deal.

Watson was a top-5 QB with Cooks (good), Fuller (meh), and mediocre talent. DeVonta, Geodert, and Quez are actually an upgrade. That doesn't even account for the OL.

Watson is too risky in my opinion. He's been off for a year and his legal problems aren't completely over, and the cost would be high. It's reasonable to expect Watson won't be as good as he was (Vick wasn't). Too many eggs to put in that basket.

Care to expand on this? Vick seemed better with the Eagles.
