The only thing I prefer in my draft is the young QB and the shot at a young safety. Getting Ruggs at 21 is a steal.

Allentown, there are a decent number of analysts who like Slay better than either of the others. I suspect the Eagles loved the two guys they signed. And Hargrave isn't a rotational DT any more than any non-superstar DT rotates in and out. Even Cox gets 10-15 snaps off per game. Hargrave is clearly the starter.

Recent PFF comparison of Byron Jones and Slay, given similar contracts. Analysis leans heavily upon fit in scheme, and specifically snaps in zone vs man coverage, especially man press. Comes down pretty clearly on Slay as being better sign. Written by Soloman Wilcots, so not an inexperienced player read.

That would be REALLY great. I'm glad you didn't draft a DT. The roster is literally stuffed with them.

With less chance to meet with and scrutinize players, this may turn into a banner year for lucking into good talent in rounds 6, 7, and undrafted.

I really wanted an OT earlier and wanted another WR (I unsuccessfully tried to trade up for Tyler Johnson and he was then sniped a few spots before 4/21). It looks like I lost looking to nab Isaiah Hodgins in that range, too.

I probably should have tried to trade back up for Ruggs, who went a few spots before my Diggs pick, but would love to get Mims at #53.

I don't know that "workout wonders" correlate with failure any more than proven college football players do.

Funny you say that on a day I am wearing my (very worn) Mike Mamula jersey. He wasnt actually as bad as some remember, actually reminds me alot of Brandon Graham in many ways, lots of QB Pressures, not many sacks, high energy, good to very good against the run. I think both guys are underrated by just looking at sack numbers.

For some reason that is better understood about Graham as his low sack numbers dont really stop him from getting a fair amount of respect. I think because Mamula was thought to be a pending great player it really hurt him.

The other thing about Mamula was that he actually was a helluva college football player. Pre-combine he was still thought to be a pick in the 25-30 range.

I think it's more about the trade up factor. Graham probably gets a little more slack because it now seems that he was played out of position by Andy after he drafted him, so there is a little "what could have been" allowance.

In Mamula's case it isn't per se that his contribution stunk (like Jon Harris, say) but it is more 1) play wasn't good for a #7 overall, 2) There was the Mel Kiper et al trashing of the pick re the better known Sapp pick 3) the fact Sapp could easily have been the pick had we done nothing and 4) that the Bucs used one of our 2nd rounders to trade up and select Derrick Brooks.

So you had the short term dislike led by Kiper, which he would have struggled to overcome, which was then re-inforced longer term by the realization that we could have selected 2 HOFamers had we just did what "the other guys" did. So a "modest" career looks like a mega-bust. We have to explain "why", so the lore of the "workout warrior" is born. After all, we all love playing the insightful GM.

Todd McShay at ESPN released a two round mock draft and doesn't have the Eagles taking a WR in either of their first two picks. He has them taking LB Patrick Queen at 21 and CB Jaylon Johnson at 53

Eagles trade picks 21 and 53, TE Zach Ertz to Jaguars for pick 9 and DE Yannick Ngakoue

Eagles get a young (25) pass rusher in Ngakoue and with the 9th pick, they draft one of the two top WR in the draft (Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb). Reports are that Ertz turned down a contract extension in 2019 and will turn 30 this year.

It would leave the Eagles with picks 103 (3rd), 127 (4th), 145 (4th), 146 (4th), 168 (5th) and 190 (6th)
