I traded out of round 1 with Houston for three picks...

My score was 35,800, only a B+, although I like this draft. You should be able to beat my score easily, though...

I took two swings at wide receiver and two swings in the late rounds at a young safety. Drafted a young QB in the 4th b/c a guy I really liked fell.

I won't comment on any of the picks right now until I give it a whirl, but if I were you I'd appeal your overall rating to the First-Pick.com 1st Circuit. How you can have 10 picks with 80% exceeding a B+ and none below, and only be graded at B+ is a societal injustice that should not be permitted to stand.

The Eagles need a young WR who they can develop into a game changer. Trading out of a position where they could nab one is counter productive. Unless they trade up, Jeudy, Lamb, And Ruggs will probably be gone. However Jefferson and Shenault most likely will be. One of those two would be the one to take. When you get into the second round, the players that are there are there for a reason-size, speed, route running, hands, etc aren’t as good. It’s not the time to get fooled by combine figures or whatever to be Mike Mamula-ed. The top five are the top five because of their game day productivity.

Yes, I would not trade out of our spot. We BADLY need a plus WR. Roseman has shown zero talent for plucking a lesser, developable WR after 1st round. Besides, since we didn't get a WR in FA, we need a guy who can contribute from the start of season. What we have coming back, no matter how much they try to kid themselves and us, is either a big health risk or questionable talent -- certainly we have nobody who can be counted upon to be our #1 receiver and field stretcher. I like our tight ends and RBs, but without a field stretcher who can actually track the ball and compete at point of reception, our TEs and RBs will be diminished. There are other positions, where we have drafted better, where later round picks can be used -- OL and TE. We need LBs and they are fine in later rounds.

I'm a big fan of Aiyuk, think he could be a game changer himself. Really good RAC skills, fast, explosive, great first step quickness. His only problem is he has trouble getting off of press coverage strength- and technique-wise, and that will get much better as he becomes a pro. And NFL teams don't play a lot of press coverage in general because of the risk of chunk plays.

And he's a very good punt returner. In the draft I did Jeudy, Lamb, Ruggs, and Jefferson were all gone before our pick, and I thought Aiyuk would make it to the second round, so I traded back.

While admittedly to a lesser extent, isn't that how the Eagles picked JJAW over Metcalf?

JJAW’s poor performance as a pro has been a stunner. He showed quite well during his career at Stanford. It’s almost as if he forgot how to play the game last year. Typical of WRs that are drafted by the Birds.

I am happy with my picks through Round 4 but was unable to find any safeties that I felt were not a wasted pick. Dillon will be great at short yardage situations, got the speedster in Ruggs, a solid CB in Terrell, another solid receiver in Claypool, a good pickup at LB, brought family into the picture in the young Runyan, Davis and Garvin to add depth and develop.

It's still a level playing field but seems likely this draft will be more of a crapshoot than ever. Whatever perceived pressure there might be on the Eagles FO to do better this year is probably already gone, and there will probably be more medical busts than usual.

There were reports this week that a committee of general managers wanted to postpone the draft. This led to commissioner Roger Goodell’s declaring that the draft would go on as scheduled, Goodell then threatening to punish anyone who spoke out against the decision. Goodell’s letter to teams said in part: “Public discussion of issues relating to the draft serves no useful purpose and is grounds for disciplinary action.”

Another agent, who didn’t want to be quoted by name in the wake of Goodell’s dictum, said he had spoken to a number of general managers and personnel people on this issue.

“They should not have the draft,” the agent said. “Nobody wants the draft to go on in four weeks. Nobody is prepared.”

Is this actually for real? Is it possible to finagle the salary cap by drawing up a contract with phantom years, which automatically void? Article says Hargrave was one of 11 best FA deals, because of way Eagles were able to structure his contract to actually be, in reality, a 3-year deal.

Really bites the prospects who declined to participate fully in combine drills, saying they would complete those drills at their pro days. Everybody is going to assume they are slow, can't leap, or whatever. Their tape will be under an ultra-harsh microscope.

Isn't that what matters the most? There have been a lot of highly rated workout wonders that have bombed on the playing field. What best indicates who the best players are are the ones that are able to beat the best on the field in competition.

This is a rather old article but I suspect it is still applicable, although until one reads (or has others read and explain the new CBA there is some caveat there). Downside is the rolling wave of committed cap you have in the out years.

One other cap point that should be made about this year is that 2020 is the last of the "cheap" Wentz years (especially if you compare to Dallas). Even with the $6M "option" bonus the Eagles exercised last week with Wentz, he still is only costing $18M this year because his base salary this year is still the 5th year option of his rookie deal. Prescott not having been a former #1 will be costing Dallas approximately $31 to 333M this year - so there alone a $13 -15M one year benefit at QB to the Eagles. All that changes next year.

I don't know that "workout wonders" correlate with failure any more than proven college football players do. There are far more of the latter, many of whom fail. The former just get more press because of the scarcity, and it is always a better story when someone is unknown, or goes higher than expected.

There's just no way it's a good thing that teams can't get more hands-on time with players, nor get them examined. But again, level field. Will test some people's philosophies, I suppose. If you're a huge believer in your ability to analyze film and mental make-up (since there will still be lots of phone calls and video chats) that is good. If those isolated individual skills are important to your assessment, not so much.
