He has a list of RPs that interest him, but is waiting for prices to go down as the deadline approaches and teams fear getting nothing for rentals since you can't make August waiver wire deals anymore.

Good summary here lists the relievers most prominently linked. Still more than $14 million below the 3rd tier of the luxury tax so short term salary not much of an issue (i.e. we could take on a pro-rated $40 million more).

Agustin Ramirez # 20 prospect for NY. Serna # 19...other not in top 30 at MLB pipeline. Seems like a small package for Chisholm

I certainly hope not. Our bench is still extremely weak (the Wilson slot is pretty easy to upgrade) and Rooker is not exactly a dream reliever. Stubbs would have been nice to upgrade, but that will happen on September 1 when Marchan comes back (if not before). A Starter would be nice.

I wouldn’t move any of our top prospects but there are still upgrades needed at the bottom of our 26 man roster.

Who's Rooker? (Oh, you mean Rucker. He's not going to be around for long. No chance they acquire another reliever, they have a surplus of long men including extra starters both in-season and post-season.)

The only question now is the pecking order.

Either Rucker or Marte go down if they call up a starter for Ranger (right now Estevez took the spot). Neither will pitch in October. Ruiz might be the lowest-leverage guy/mop-up. Or maybe he still steps up. Soto might get a few LHBs in early innings if the leverage isn't too high.

I would still like to see a LHB for Wilson but I wouldn't say the bench is weak at all. Stubbs is fine (he already proved that when JT was out), Sosa is great, Rojas is now the 4th OF in theory. If Wilson was LH I'd stick with him. You're talking about a spot that is barely used. Would be great to find Matt Stairs or Justin Bour but the argument for Clemens (because he's an INF and our 3B and SS are RHBs) is still strong.

Any one of those guys can go 1-3 pinch-hitting in the playoffs. None of them will start, and nobody else the Phillies would get is anyone you'd want to see start (in event of injury) either.

I think they upgrade the bench by adding Marchan for the playoffs. He can hit and hit for power.

It would be an interesting move but I wouldn't count on it. Even if they bring him up in September instead of letting him finish the Iron Pigs season keeping him on a four-man bench after the NLDS would be a stretch. Of course, he could probably play the field in a pinch.

Kody Clemens actually had just as many HRs and more RBIs in a similar number of ABs, though obviously Marchan's overall offensive numbers way better. But this is the problem with bench guys and small samples, and regression. Marchán was great when he got to play two out of every five days, doesn't mean he'd be any good off the bench in October. Same true of Clemens, we were ready to give Pache his roster spot after the May he had but then reduced playing time and injury reminded us that he was Kody Clemens.

But like I said somewhere earlier just about any of these guys might go 1-3 in the playoffs with the most memorable hit of the year. Or they could go 0 for 3. Or the hit might not matter. For the LHB, not likely to be much more than that.

I mean, Sosa got 1 AB last year in the NLCS, none in the NLDS or the WC. Ditto Cave - sat on the bench for the first two rounds and then went 1 for 3 in the NLCS. That is the sort of playing time anyone not named Hays, Marsh or Sosa will be getting this October, whether it's Clemens or Wilson or Dahl or Marchan or someone we trade for (I still don't see them getting an OF who would play more at Marsh or Rojas's expense).

I’d be looking for a specialist who can get LH out if it was available since I think there is some chance that Alvarado isn’t trusted enough by the end of the season and if Strahm is the only LHP trusted in the pen that isn’t enough. Soto is an emergency guy IMO.

If it doesn’t happen, that’s fine, we aren’t desperate.

The two guys tearing it up in Lehigh are Kennedy and Stevenson.
Kennedy is a RH utility IF and Stevenson a switch hitting OF with speed who walks a lot.

Cardinals get: SP Erick Fedde, OF Tommy Pham.

White Sox get three INF prospects from the Dodgers: Miguel Vargas, Alexander Albertus and Jeral Perez.

That seems a really bad return to the White Sox for 3 players. None of the prospects are a sure thing. Vargas was highly rated but has disappointed in the majors. The other two are far away and only top 20 prospects in the Dodgers system.

Some smaller, additional elements to this trade: Dodgers also get 17-year-old RHP Oliver Gonzalez from Cardinals; White Sox also get a PTBNL or cash from Dodgers; Cardinals also get cash from White Sox and PTBNL or cash from Dodgers.

The price for Lane Thomas. I have watched Clemmey and Ramirez all year. Ramirez was an error machine like his dad and Clemmey has only made small strides for a 3rd round pick, but certainly has more potential than Ramirez.

I still think the Phillies should get Robert, he would be an upgrade in CF. Even as he is having a down year, he is better than Rojas as a hitter and he is a gold glove caliber CF too. I don't think Hays is an everyday player and he and Marsh can platoon LF. I would love to see a big deal for Crochet and Robert, but Robert is the one who can help them the most this year.
