No reason to read mocks for anything other than entertainment purposes - rather than predictive power - I'd think. Even at the top of the draft I wouldn't think these guys get nearly as much accurate inside info as in other leagues, where the gossip and rumor mill is much more robust (in part because the drafts are also trade markets).
Barber reports directly to Dombrowski (not Fuld) so of course he's going to be involved in the pick. You don't want it to be his call, but if the front office works correctly everyone - including, just as crucially under the supposed new philosophy, Mattingly - agrees anyway.
Isn't the Phillies pick for all intents and purposes almost the same as a supplemental round pick?
