That is a whole lot of yuck. I just saw Denaburg pitch for low A Nationals. Was not pretty but I think he has been injured. I hope we can do better

Porcello was drafted before the current slotting system, though. He slipped due to signability concerns and ended up with the 4th highest bonus in 2007.

Ah. Yeah I was actually surprised there weren't a few more obvious guys like that on the list though presumably they were also taken elsewhere in the 20s over the years.

Top of my head (and very many years apart) Mike Trout was of course a 25, and Walker Buehler a 24. Nolan Arenado was a high second-rounder the same year as Trout. If you can somehow get a late first-rounder who is as good as Nolan or J-Roll that would be the dream.

And don't take anyone who is more like the Phillies' various semi-recent sandwich picks (Valent, Shane Watson).

Jewels can be found in any round. I have hope that they find some in the upcoming draft. But looking at that list of 27th picks made me cringe. We will find a good pick!!

That list of 27s causes me to say: the 27th pick is WAY OVERDUE for a star to come from it.

I know Turner's gonna come around, for several years to come. And he's needed even more without Hoskins. But boy, right now the team would be just as good with Stott or Sosa at SS (or at least it would be if it had a 1B).

Of course they also could have signed Correa and not lost any picks or $. But he's worse than Trea right now.

While physically he looks like Painter, i'm not wow'd by what I see from him on the mound. As a hitter he seems to have really good balance, power and bat speed- but then you have to wonder if it's ok now to believe in 6' 8" hitters or is that a mistake? These big guys don't look like what big guys used to look like as hitters who had arms too long to turn on velocity.

I think his ranking is based mostly on his hitting. More of a 3rd round talent on the mound at the moment. I suspect he is dropping in these mock drafts because teams might think the 2-way development would hurt him in developing either way.

I don't know that he's necessarily dropping but right in the range where he should be given the height risk factor. Depending on the source, he may be as tall as 6' 8", and there have only been 2 position players that tall in the history of baseball- Tony Clark and Nate Frieman.

I have seen him mocked in the 11-14 range also though. I just wonder if teams that really like him as a hitter think he is riskier if he spends half his time pitching (which opens him up to other injuries as well).

I'd like him in our spot. But that is more because I like the tools and also think that if one fails along the way (yes we are talking 6'8" hitter here) the other one provides him another chance.

My global thought was pitching or a 3B with the first pick so I'd be good with this. We don't have a decent 3B prospect in the minors I think. We've signed Turner for forever, have Stott and our top International signings the last two years were Bergolla and Caba so 3B makes sense to me. And I like Emerson's swing quite a bit.
