Phils are 3-1, in first place and have the following offensive stats from 5 of their starting 9:
Schwarber AVG=.143, Realmuto AVG=.154, Harper AVG=.071, Castellanos AVG=.200, Vierling AVG=.000

Plus Didi, despite the .250 AVG has a .583 OPS.

Possible explanation: Knebel ("flu-like symptoms") to the COVID-IL; Singer to replace him. Then when Knebel tests negative (etc.), Singer is DFA. They choose Singer instead of Ogle (or somebody else), because they don't care much if Singer is lost on waivers, or don't think he's at risk of being claimed.

That makes sense on Singer going up and down. They said no about COVID though in the initial Knebel comments. Still could create a space by moving Moniak to the 60. Or they may have soured on Damon Jones enough where they will take a chance on him getting through waivers.

But if they're swapping out Jones, why Singer? He's not the best option if they want somebody to do something other than hold down a temporary seat in the 'pen.

Does Singer have length? I'm assuming they actually like how he's throwing.

They could also DFA Norwood. I know we (understandably) assume they wouldn't having just given up something for him but he's also not going to be ready to pitch.

Because they are not afraid of losing him later. Plus the length compared to Ogle who I think they would be afraid of losing.

One other thing. They already have FIVE lefties in the bullpen. Alvarado, Falter, Hand, Jones, Sanchez.

That is a lot. Can't imagine they bring Singer here if they are not sending a LHP out somewhere. I know 2 of those pitchers (Sanchez and Falter) are long men used to turn the lineup around with expanded rosters, but five is still a lot.

Possible there's an injured list move to come too (be it COVID or otherwise).

Singer's probably only around until Norwood is ready - a couple of days.

And they chose Singer because I think the player does need a DFA or an option to be taken off the major league roster. Singer is very likely to clear waivers, but also no disaster if they lost him. They could still choose to DFA somebody else when they need the spot.

When Norwood comes up they will just option somebody to the minors most likely. Knebel will need 2 negative tests spaced 24 hours apart to come back, so probably 5-7 days is my guess.

Much like the rest of the country I'm not sure baseball fans are ready for how many COVID absences this season's gonna bring, though I suspect the majority of cases will just go unrecognized/unreported (i.e. guys will just play through cold and flu-like symptoms if they can. Presumably Knebel was too sick to actually pitch, as was Wheeler in ST).

6 lefties in the lineup tonight. Debut for Muzziotti in the lineup in CF. Stott in for Segura and Camargo at 3B. Bryce also getting a DH day.

Megill for the Mets has gigantic splits (SSS). 560 against RHB/978 OPS against LHB. 13 HRs given up in 192 plate appearances against left-handed batters.

I saw other sites go over the alleged words said by Bohm after the Bronx cheer that were caught on camera. They addressed it on the telecast, so I guess it was legit.
