Hmmm. Since reinstatement requires 2 negative tests 24 hours apart, I guess the Phillies were lying to us about flu-like symptoms early on.

Seems a waste that this type of move requires a DFA, though that was our collective reasoning on why it was Singer and not Ogle. Or they just could have moved a reliever up who was on the 40 already for a day (Morales most likely). He could have not pitched just as well as Singer.

Not necessarily a lie. Even in the age of Covid, flu-like symptoms could actually be the flu, or the common cold, or even allergies, as pollens are out several weeks early this season.

If the first negative test was yesterday then there had to be a positive test the previous day (Monday or previous to that).

I am guessing they are not allowed to say anything for privacy reasons. It just seems like silly rules. The press are going to ask him if he is vaccinated now anyway.

Phillies’ Corey Knebel moved to COVID-related IL after experiencing flu-like...

On Tuesday, he was placed on the COVID-19 injured list. Knebel took an initial COVID test that was positive, and a second test Monday for which the team was awaiting the result. If it’s negative, he could be back as soon as Wednesday for the Phillies’ 1:05 p.m. game against the Mets.

The #Phillies optioned RHP Connor Brogdon and LHP Damon Jones to Triple-A. RHP James Norwood has been activated from the bereavement list. Another roster move will come tomorrow.

He is the only pure reliever left on the 40, though more realistically they would get Maples or Ogle first and create a spot (Moniak?).

Morales did have another scoreless outing tonight. Just figure he is important to the Phillies so they really want him to get 3 months of work as a reliever before they consider calling him up.

Andrew Bellatti is being added to the Phils active roster. Sam Coonrod is going to the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster.

I don't think the Phillies are as bad as they've shown so far. But I don't think they are much improved over last season. While they should get more offense from Schwarber and Castellanos, it seems likely that Harper won't reproduce 2021. Segura might not either. And every NL team's offense improved with the DH.

The defense hasn't improved at all since Schwarber is as bad as McCutchen was. Maybe there will be a little improvement if they eventually stop playing Bohm and Didi in the field; on the other hand, Torreyes played a lot of games at 3B and SS last year, and he wasn't bad defensively. Seems like a wash to me.

The rotation may not be any better either. We can't count on Suarez being as good as he was in his few starts in 2021, and it's very possible, maybe probable, that Wheeler can't reproduce last year either. Gibson wasn't that good for the Phillies in 2021. The bullpen has some new faces who might be good, but they also lost Neris, who was probably their best reliever last season.

Overall, it seems to me that we will see a similar season in 2022.

Coming out of spring training, I thought the team was much improved over the past couple years, but it really doesn't matter what I think. What counts is what they do on the field. So far, the performance has been a big disappointment. Still plenty of time to change that, but it only happens if they go out and do it.

Remember we did start out with 3 of our 5 starters being behind the already short spring training. It may not just be about arm strength. They may just need a few more outings to get comfortable.

I am not all doom and gloom on this season yet. Yes all games count, but I am going to wait until the end of April before I start panicking. Somethings have improved, somethings have not. I think the wildcard is the clubhouse and how the coaching staff respond to starting off slow. Ultimately, I am still hopeful about our long-term prospects. Go Phils

Girardi says that Odúbel Herrera will travel either tonight or tomorrow to Lehigh Valley. He'll play there and then they will evaluate when he can rejoin the club. Girardi says it's possible we see him this coming homestand.

Obviously disappointed by the start of the season. However it's not time to panic. There are hitters on this club. That won't be the problem come July. Roles and positions haven't been defined as of yet. That'll come.
Right now the SP concerns me. Nola gets hit too much when he shouldn't. Is he tipping pitches or has he fallen into a pattern with his pitches that the opposition has detected. Is anyone else concerned about Wheeler getting lit up?

Well the Phillies have made it clear that this is still like spring training for Wheeler. But they probably wouldn't be any better off if he was still in Clearwater and they were starting someone else.

Beyond that, obviously Wheeler was probably headed for drop-off (best case) or injuries (worst case) this season.

I agree "hitting season" will come but 1/3 of the line-up is still a bit of an offensive question mark. And clearly the club is built to score five runs a game or more, so if they don't....
