Well, a few days ago I would have said Girardi​

I think the plan was Norwood, but he has looked pretty good. Might still be him, but I think he complicated the plan.

Sanchez is probably a definite because you want to stretch him out to start (Falter already sent down for that).

After that Damon Jones is probably the least effective pitcher. Norwood is probably safe since they traded for him and has been decent. Other possibilities are Bellatti and Nelson. Nelson has been effective and they could lose Bellatti.

I do think they go with only 13 pitchers even though they have the option of 14. They are really not using the bottom of the bullpen much and Wheeler and Suarez are going deeper in games. The issue with sending Jones down is whether they want the 3rd lefty in the pen beyond Hand and Alvarado.

Norwood was out of options when they got him, he was always going to either be in the majors or get DFAed.

I would think it's Jones for sure. He hasn't pitched well, whereas Nelson has pitched well enough to help, rather than going into the LV rotation.

The option carousel will certainly get going now. Sounds like Brogdon might be back up soon?

The article is pretty wishy-washy in the end. I think the pressure was relieved a little bit by the Rockies sweep, and a change also wouldn't fix anything. But if May is as bad as April - which it could be - we'll be right back there. Or he could get the ax after it's already too late, once Dombrowski knows the extension isn't happening.

I think I agree with this. Much more on the demoting Hoskins side. I do think Segura is just going through a down week or two.

I agree that many of us were not satisfied with the play in April, but in reality, the Phillies ended the month 11-11. Probably not an awful month even if we expect better.

If they do as bad in May and end May at .500, I doubt Joe is in any danger of losing his job.

Well, that's true, but 6 of those 11 wins were at home against Oakland and a Colorado team that is probably not good. After this Rangers series I don't see a single winnable series in May, at least not on paper and especially not if the team is as bad as it might be. Obviously if it's not as bad as it might be he's safe - and probably is anyway.

And first they have to win the Rangers series.

Well after booting away game one against Texas, they cannot win this series. Tonight, shows that they certainly can be a last place team. I hope that is not true and that they can win the second game with Texas and at least split with the Mets before going on the road. Games coming up, especially with the Dodgers, do not figure to be easy.

Yeah, listen... they could win a series they shouldn't, it's baseball, it happens. They could also run off an eight or 10-game winning streak as we have seen them do before in the Girardi era multiple times.

But if they continue as they are, they might not win a series until Arizona on June 10, and certainly won't be favored to. They are currently on pace for less than 75 wins, and that's at 11-13. By June 2 they could be 20-31. Hopefully not. 25-26 and still trying to get on track would be, if not good, at least not dire.

I know he was behind in ST.. but Ranger Suarez has had 5 starts now and its really looking hes turned back into a pumpkin. I realize the defense didnt help.. but the 1.6 WHIP isnt going to get it done.

Does he still have options? If so, at what point do we mull sending him to LHV to straighten things out.

We don't really have anyone in LHV that is better than Suarez. Maybe Falter should get a chance in a few months. Crouse pitched poorly and is hurt. Sanchez is not better than Suarez.

I think we need to ride Suarez out and just go back to thinking he is a number 4 starter rather than something better. And we need to play the better defensive lineup (i.e. Camargo at 3B) when he pitches. Maybe infield defense is important enough that we need to get Maton or Stott back here at some point also. We need Vierling and Quinn both when Harper can't play the field, but if Bryce is healthy we probably don't need both of them.

It isn't a good sign that we don't have a viable 6th starter this early in the season.
