Not happy to lose the guys we lost, but looking at the price of most trades, I think it is the best we could have done. We may regret it in the long run, but that is the essence of trade deadline deals. The bodies back are better than last year IMO - Gibson was OK. I wish them success in their new organizations.

Fangraphs on the various deals. They do like Sanchez more than Moniak in the Thor deal.

They think the Marsh deal is more balanced and possibly that the Angels could have gotten more (with big caveats on his K rate). Brown is a reliever to them so they are OK with the Robertson deal. I do wonder if Brown is better than that. He just has pitched so little that he has not had the time to develop his secondary pitches yet while healthy.

I don't know man...they are playing really well without two legitimate upgrades with the reigning MVP and Segura.

I'll take them in a short series with Nola and Wheeler.

I think the pitching is better than we think too. If you go back over the last three years of playoff games I doubt many teams actually had guys better than we do in the 3 and 4 spot (or even the 2 for that matter). And some of them did bullpen games! No, they are not a World Series caliber team on paper with a surefire #3 who could be a #2 elsewhere but some teams don't even have as good a #2 as the Phillies do.

As the article I posted last night mentions, they need to actually nail down the playoff spot early enough to set up the rotation. It falls apart if both Nola or Wheeler can't even pitch until Game 3 (which could also not be played).

Hey... We had a problem. We had the board throwing errors left and right. Excessive posting; excessive emails being generated alerting some posters every time anybody posted in some very busy threads; also, I suspect, some posters trying to keep a bunch of threads open simultaneously in multiple windows, so as see everything as fast as possible.

The board is a shared resource. People were overloading it. Maybe I wasn't as nice about it as some would prefer... but people responded, and the problem subsided.

I mean, I could have locked some threads, or perhaps set the limit on how rapidly a single poster can submit posts to something like 5 minutes (yes, the board will do that, although it would interfere with game threads), or called out certain posters by name -- but I would very much prefer if people self-regulate -- and trying to post constantly, when the board is struggling, is not helpful.

It's a commons problem, really. A single poster trying to post constantly, or setting threads to alert them of every post, or keeping a dozen windows updating constantly, won't faze the board at all. But if a bunch of posters all try these things at the same time...it can break down. When that happens, everybody needs to back away, demand less. Everybody needs to "go first," stop pushing the board, and not wait for "the other guy" to go first. That was not happening, so I said something. People responded, for which I'm grateful (because I was frantically paging through the board's documentation, trying to figure out if I could change some setting to reduce the load without shutting people down or out).

Look, I understand what you're saying, and should state up front that I continue to appreciate all that you do to ensure the technical aspects of the board run as smoothly as possible. Technology works great until it doesn't, and something seemingly very simple can be less than very simple to correct (e.g., last year's security certificate bug after a script app expired after 20 years) - so keeping the lights on here so the group can commiserate and overanalyze Rhys Hoskins taking the first pitch on his third at-bat or whatever probably doesn't get called out as much as it should.

That said, the point I was making was that I don't believe your condescending tone really helps anything along, whether it be with a technical issue or subjective debate. You say, "maybe I wasn't as nice about it as some would prefer...but people responded, and the problem subsided." So you're saying people wouldn't have responded had you dropped the barbed approach? I'd argue most (at least) would have - enough to remedy the issue - but either way, is it better to err on the side of respect to posters like bkox - who IMO contributes a lot of great comments and trivia nuggets from beat writers/analysts, especially for out of market fans who may not otherwise see them - or to pre-emptively talk down to them and risk pushing them away? The worst case scenario of the former would have been, what, the board jamming up for 30 minutes?

I've been a member of this community for a long time now, and have a lot of respect for your input on various topics. But I've long noted your tendency to speak down to others at times as well. It's not that big of a deal - we've all got our Jeurys Familia moments - I just call it out if I feel it's detracting from the community atmosphere, and we move along.

Thank you Sabin. Julio has no idea (or maybe he does and just doesnt care) that he has driven multiple people from this board. Ive left before because of him and this time im making it permanent. He hurts this board more than helps. His condescending tone was a conversation on other phillies forums in the past. And now im sick of it. He takes the phun out it. He comes across as a condescending overbearing bully (irony.. kinda like Trump) and Ive had too much of that in other areas of my life in the past to continue taking it here.

Folks, don't overreact to something julio posted that was pretty mild. It's hard when you are the "tech guy" and everything hits the fan at once. If you've never been in that situation (trying to fix breaking tech in real time) try to have some empathy/compassion. I've been there; it made me crazy!

I would like to think that both parties could back away from some heat-of-the-moment Internet snippiness. I'd also say that if the mods find redundand/repeat posts, thread drift and high-volume posting to be that big an issue, whether an irritant or as something that actually does crash the board during a busy time, there are things that could be done about that (and I say that being guilty of all those things as well). Seems to me that posting a new thread for every trade and having discussion on all of them (instead of locking them as just news) as well as on the general trade deadline thread and general Phillies season thread must have stressed the system as much as any one person's double-posts or the notification settings.

I think the big tech lesson was for people to turn off notification emails. I guess I did that years ago as it was annoying. The system can't seem to handle a large volume of that.

If it was the only time it happened, absolutely agree. But this is constant repeated behavior even during non stressed tech times. Others have left this phorum because of him. Its a pattern of repeated behavior. If it was once and done I would have never even said a word.

This board is bigger than me.. so I would rather walk away and not distract from it then 2nd guess every single post I make to see if Julio is going to find a way to pick at me.

So, OK, I probably should have said something more like "Everybody needs to slow down and not try to post constantly, all at the same time," rather than "This is not a competition. Breathe." Mea culpa for that. But I very deliberately did not mention bkox, or any other poster by name - either in that first response to the problem, or subsequently, when I was looking at a list of board emails sent and skipped, and could easily have directed a "please change your notification settings" to specific posters. I did not want to call out individual posters, for doing things unintentionally that seemed to be contributing to the problem. I'll call out individuals for deliberate bad behavior, but (hopefully) not for things that just happen.

I had no intention of saying that bkox was the source of the board's struggles, and I'm sorry if he thought that was the case.

You posted this right after I posted the Odubel release in both the Marsh trade thread and the season discussion thread. You made it sound like I was doing this because I was rushing to be first to post or something like I as a 47yo man gets some kinda jollies about being the first to post on a forum.

I intentionally posted the obudel news in both threads because some times things ARE revelent in 2 threads. IMO it belonged in the Marsh trade thread because it was a direct result of the Phillies acquiring him. And it belonged in the season discussion because that thread serves as kinda a record of the entire season.

So yes I took the post as a shot at me since you knew I was the one the posted the Odubel release in 2 threads.. because you even edited one of my posts.

But the thing is... it could have been a random Wednesday in December when the board is slow as molasses and I still would have posted in both because I felt it was relevant for both spots. Ive been posting on this phorum for 20+ years. Ive been a mod and admin of other forums, discords and facebook groups. I know how to post in a phorum and whats relevant where. And I dont consider any of it any kinda competition. Last year I was thanked by multiple members of the phorum when I was rapid fire posting MLB trades as they came in at the deadline. Many who dont use twitter or just cant at work or whatever. Not as a competition but as a source of information.

And my last thought on the subject. If this had been the only time you were condescending toward me or other posters, I would have just ignored it as a heat of the moment thing. Everyone has moments like that. But its a pattern of behavior that, just like a few others before me, ive now grown tired of. Sabin pointed out the same to you. It wasnt JUST that comment. And Its not just me thats gotten fed up with it. The Irony here is.. if the roles were reversed and I was the admin and you a poster.. I would have sent you a PM telling you to treat others with more respect and to tone down the condescending attitude toward others. But this is your phorum. And you choose to use it to talk down to others. And that no longer makes it something that is fun for me. And there is no reason for me to hang here if its no longer fun. And I used and to start way too many sentences.

bkox, you are honestly making way more out of this than is warranted. I like your posts; I hope you stay. But this sounds personal, like you've been keeping score or something.

I suggest that you just let it go, really. Nothing was meant by it, trust me. It was a very difficult day on the tech side for the board, and julio bears the brunt of that.

A message board has hundreds of different posters all of whom have different personalities, and it's inevitable that over time people are going to rub each other the wrong way. When that happens all of us hope we can get past the conflict and move onward. With the way things are now in the world, it seems more important than ever to me that we give each other space to step out-of-bounds occasionally without amplifying the misstep.

One nice thing about message boards that you don’t have in real life is the ability to just skip over posts from people who annoy you. Like Julio, I’ve gotten crankier when I got Medicare, but I’m not a board moderator.
