The Phillies have now added David Robertson and Brandon Marsh, but continue to shop for starting pitchers.

Sources say they've talked to the Red Sox about Nathan Eovaldi and Rich Hill, and to the Giants about Carlos Rodon. And still in conversation with the Angels on Syndergaard

If the Phillies do still get their SP I'd call it a successful day. Price was too high for Marsh but Robertson a pleasant surprise. Of course if the pay a high price for the pitcher after already losing Brown and O'Hoppe there might be things not to like about that.

So the Twins didn’t give up a top 100 guy and got Mahle and Lopez (both have future years of control). We gave up a top 100 guy and our 7th prospect for Marsh and Robertson (Marsh having significant control). I guess that’s the disadvantage of having a top heavy system. When you don’t have any depth, you have to trade from the top to get players and that means overpaying a bit.

Ruf has been one of the worst players in the league by WAR (almost as bad as Moniak and Castellanos) and they got 4 people for him. Lol. Even if it is 4 guys that are not prospects (I don't know) it is laughable, Ruf is a DFA prospect and they got something for him.

I guess DD isn't the guy making the worst trades today, although he is trying to win the title.

What he got today allows for Herrera and Familia to clean out their lockers. That's a plus.

Yeah but he could have done that with two players that cost nothing (including Moniak and Morales). It has nothing to do with evaluating the players we got or the acquisition price.

They are 12 games behind the Dodgers which means they....just like the phillies...sold out their future for a 1 game playoff...

3 game playoff - potentially all at home - so a bit better than that. But definitely rolling the dice that they don't run into a couple of hot pitchers.

Where are they going to play Drury? They already have a pretty good third baseman. Are they going to move Machado to SS?

Short term they shuffle at SS. Maybe some Cronenworth. A little Kim who does not hit much but can field. Drury at 2B but eventually DH too. They must think Tatis will be able to play SS defensively when he is back.

Yeah, the Padres are clearly chasing the 4th seed and three home games. Not insignificant. And the biggest moves are beyond this season too.
