Giants already have their catcher of the future in Joey Bart, even though he is not setting the world on fire in his rookie season. I doubt O'Hoppe would be sufficient trade bait there.

Well he can opt-out.. which means hes a risk that if he gets injured in the final 2 months somehow you could be on the hook for 22.5M next year for an injured pitcher.

Obviously thats a very small risk but one to consider.

So even worse than a rental. He’s either with you for the rest of the year and opts out or he gets severely injured and opts in for a year where you don’t get him or you get a less effective him.

I can’t see the Giants getting much more than a back end top 100 prospect (if that) for him.

Beyond having plus defense, Phillips, 28, is fast and is an elite defender at all three outfield positions — which would give the Phillies some flexibility — and has a plus plus arm. He also ranks second in baseball in outfield jumps, and first in baseball in outs above average (OAA) for outfielders, with 10, per baseballsavant.com. For context, Odúbel Herrera has +3 OAA, Matt Vierling has +1, Kyle Schwarber has -5, and Nick Castellanos has -8.

That almost reminds me of Klentak at his first deadline when while fielding offers for Hellickson, he delusionally demanded QO comp pick value in exchange for him. Are the Giants being delusional or smart here?

Getting a comp pick does not really change his value though. Just sets the floor on the prospect needed to get him and that floor was always larger than a comp pick. With the Phillies they are asking for one of our big 3 arms and even McGarry is more valuable than a comp pick. I guess Brown would be roughly comparable to one in value.
