The days of getting genuine prospect value at the deadline is gone unless maybe you trade young controllable talent though, let's face it, you only do that if you are not only throwing in the towel on this season but the next one and possibly the next one after that in a long, painful rebuild. With the expectation that we aren't getting much significant back, this deadline, this is my list of the most likely to be traded.
McCutchen: As others have noted, he's hit well lately and always been a better second half player and, for whatever it may be worth, he would be a veteran presence, a consummate professional and a class act.
Neris: Hector is Hector and every season he endures his annual crisis of confidence when he can't get through a ninth inning without an implosion. But, just as quickly as he gets into it, he snaps out of it and goes back to being an effective reliever again. He's going through the crisis now. Hopefully, he can snap out of it in time for him to have value at the deadline. After all, contending teams typically look for relief help at the deadline.
Bradley: Notwithstanding yesterday, he's shown some improvement lately and some contending team may be willing to gamble that he will be good for them down the stretch. Again, contending teams typically look for relief help at the deadline.
Miller: Similar to relievers, contending or barely contending teams not rarely look for pieces to help the bench. Besides, he's a guy we can always sign back this winter.
Velasquez: Perhaps some contending or barely contending team will be hard-up for a fifth starter or a fifth starter/long reliever swing man.
