Looks like Haseley is getting the start against the LHP in the opener.

And still no 40-man move. 40-man roster has 42 on it NOT including Muzziotti who is unlisted here. Only 1 (Seranthony) on the 60-day IL.

Gelb notes that it is just Haseley's 11th career start against a lefty, seems to think it indicates a real desire on the part of the Phillies that he takes the job. Obviously Quinn would get plenty of use if not.

I guess it could also be a sink-or-swim type situation, if they still consider Herrera an option.

Multiple tweets - Adam Haseley's left hamstring tightened up. Why he left game. Day to day.

So what if AH absolutely has to go on the DL, but only for the minimum? Moniak? Can't see them burning a 40-man spot if it's not serious.

It's a very noteworthy item, I am seriously asking the question! (Maybe I needed to put a comma afer "So"?). The guy has a history of groin and now hamstring issues and if he needs more than 1-2 days off he likely needs to go on the DL. Logic says Herrera would be the next guy up but it still takes a second roster move, and having just pretty carefully navigated that process while managing to keep Dohy, I wonder if they'd do it.

I agree that a Herrera vs Moniak choice might revolve around whether the injury is a 10-day injury (Moniak) or something longer (Herrera).

DD seems more of a big picture long term guy when managing the 40-man roster than Klentak. We used to make lots of waiver claims under Klentak in the offseason only to jettison them when free agents were signed. DD seems more about thinking of whether a 40-man guy is going to be useful later in the year. I'd venture a guess that he would be less likely to elevate prospects to the 40 before the rule 5 draft and gamble on them not getting picked or sticking with teams.

I don't think Herrera is the next guy up. Probably Moniak, like you mentioned, who is already on 40 man roster.

Herrera didn't do enough to win the CF job outright - Haseley (potentially) needing time off doesn't change that.

Anybody else hate the off day after the first game? I get so pumped for Phillies baseball and then I get the smallest taste before their is an off day.

Totally, I thought maybe it wouldn't happen this year given when the season started. But I guess it mostly exists to try and allow for immediate make-up games.

It used to be so teams got a guaranteed full house. Opening day would sell out and game 2 would get 14,000 people in 38 degree weather. That was less of an issue this year of course.

Adam Haseley is available today and is expected to start tomorrow, Joe Girardi said. He left Thursday's game with a strained left hamstring.

Good news but hard not to expect a recurrence, or new issue.

Perhaps we'll see a Quinn bunt single today.

They both need to play the first few weeks. I still expect largely a L/R platoon when both are healthy though it probably also makes sense to give Haseley a few more chances to win a full time job since he does have a bit more ceiling. Maybe they spot Quinn a bit more in large outfields also, though those might be the days they rest Cutch too. I guess with Joyce we won't see too many Quinn/Haseley lineups.

Main point is they both should play until we see who is better (or if they both are lacking).

Having a bit of tightness on a 40 degree windy day at the first game isn't that unusual nor necessarily a sign of longer term concern. Hopefully, more a sign of early Spring baseball.

It's true, but when you are also just recovered from a groin injury... which he also had in 2019. And last year a wrist.

Not to mention Miller, who probably gets more LF starts than Joyce (with Joyce more of a PH guy).

It's just funny they started Haseley against the lefty and now don't have him today. I'd be surprised if either of them really win the job, just a matter of who plays well enough to get 60% of the starts instead of 50 (and if that's Haseley that would be normal, platoon-wise).

The Phillies can relax their COVID-19 protocols if 85-percent of their traveling party gets vaccinated. Hector Neris said Monday that he doesn't want the vaccine, offering a glimpse into the challenges the Phillies could face to reach 85 percent. 2https://t.co/ZspToxcuVF2
