I thought we led the league (or close to it) in starter innings though. They'll be hard-pressed to stay with a four-man bench once both Quinn and Joyce come back. As it is they either have to DFA Torreyes or option Maton at that point (or DFA Joyce which you can certainly make the case for, especially with Herrera seemingly set at CF).
With that plan, it sounds like Howard simply won't be expected to face an order three times, but would agree that it seems sub-optimal not to prepare him for it, because a day like yesterday with Anderson will surely come, and Joe will want to leave him in.
The June schedule definitely buys them some slack, but bottom line - the back of this rotation probably doesn't win you the division in September, let alone a seven-game series, so come July we will really find out the extent of Dombrowski's powers. Of course the lack of tradeable depth is also a hindrance, especially since you'll want the team you're buying from to pick up or take back some $.
