Pretty good summary of those available in the rule 5 phase tomorrow (from a Braves writer):
I really find it hard to find anyone in the list I'd use a 40-man spot on. Maybe the Phils scouts have...
60 posts were split to a new topic: 2024 MLB (Rule 4) Draft Discussion
Draft is at 2 PM. The anticipation of nothing Phillies-related happening is building.
The next Roy Halladay might be lurking in the rule 5 draft! Or at least the next Jamie Moyer...
Ooh! Ooh! I can hardly wait!
Phillies passed.
Well, we passed in the first round of the major-league portion. No Philadelphia prospects were chosen in this round.
No selections by any team in the second round. Triple-A phase starts in five minutes.
But what about Noah Song?
AAA Phase - 1st Round
Minnesota took Rafael Marcano (High-A) from the Phils in the first round of the AAA phase.
Phils selected Will Simoneit (C-1B) from Oakland's AA roster.
AAA Phase - 2nd Round
KC took Keylan Killgore from the Phils in the first pick of the second round of the AAA phase.
Phils took Luis Caicuto (C) from Arizona's complex-league roster.
Houston took Carlos Betancourt from the Phils's High-A roster.
AAA Phase -Third Round
Phils take Carson Taylor (C) from the Dodgers' AA roster.
Rays take Blake Brown, from the Phils AA roster.
Fourth Round: Phils select Trevor Schwecke (SS) from Toronto's AA roster.
Fifth Round: Phils take Bryce Ball (IF) form Cleveland AA roster.
so the Phillies took their Ball and went home..
Darick Hall without the current HR power. But he did play at Dallas Baptist at least.
2 years ago in rookie ball he hit .350 as a 19 year old sandwiched between two injury shortened seasons. Will be interesting to see if they can make anything out of him.
Luis Caicuto seems the most interesting of those minor league rule 5 picks to me. He is still only 20 and has not progressed beyond the complex leagues where he was decent in 2022 but barely played this year. Must have signed a contract for the year he was signed in July (2019) for him to be eligible this year for even the minor league portion of the draft.
Clearly the Phillies saw something they liked.
