Trades I'd persue if I was GM:

I'd revisit tradig VV to Texas. Something about this guy worries me. Maybe it's the injury risk, but I also sense an attitude issue below the surface. How about this big one:

Mazara everyday RF (lefthanded too, helps balance heavy RH lineup)

plus, I doubt the Angels have the depth in the rotation to deal Skaggs for a light-hitting second baseman.

One trade possibility, would be having the Phillies eat Andre Ethier's contract in exchange for Cesar Hernandez. The Dodgers would get the 2B they need and dump a bad contract(they're supposed to be clearing debt). For this, the Phillies would have to get "way too much in return in prospects" thrown into the deal, than you'd expect in return for Cesar Hernandez.

I don't want to trade Tirado. I doubt Ethier provides veteran leadership. Actually, being chucked from a contender to a sub-.500 team it seems more likely he becomes a problem. Not to ignore that he really stank last season.

I don't see freeing 40-man spots as that big a deal at the moment. We can't protect additional players from thee Rule 5 draft -- if I am interpreting the rule correctly, we are passed the deadline to add a prospect to the 40-man and that ship has sailed. Not to say we might not value a 40-man vacancy by the end of ST.

I doubt that Ethier would provide veteran leadership also, that was more to benefit the Managers need for a warm and fuzzy veteran bat. Plus he'd be playing for his next contract or playing out the string, either way, he wouldn't be hard to replace if someone at AAA started pounding down the door.
Tirado is just someone I would've left off the 40 man roster. I seriously doubt he'd get claimed or would stick.

Well, keep your hopes up. They have until December 1st to ask waivers on somebody, and until the 5th to actually outright somebody, to free up space on the roster.

Wow this is harsh a-town. He had all of 26 plate appearances after coming off a broken leg, is this justification for "really" stank"? He also had a very good year in 2015 putting up a 2.7 WAR according to bbref. LA has well documented financial issues and I agree with SS that they have a desire to move him to free up payroll. He had a huge l/r hitting split in 2015, .475/.900 so the $20 million he is owed next year is a ton for a platoon player. He fits for us for 1 year, and you can probably get something of value with him if you take on his salary. He also would be playing for his next contract so he may be motivated by that to be a good citizen.

I'm all for trading Hernandez to LA or whichever team gives us the most value in return. We have lots of options at 2b both now and in the near future. It makes sense to trade him, play Kendrick there in 2017 and have a short term left handed bat like Either play LF for a year.

The main position of need is a good LH starting pitcher. Sale is worth looking into but I would be reluctant to include Crawford, Alfaro or Moniak for him. We also could use back of the bullpen help.

I don't agree with this. Looking at the roster as is, I see three spots(Klein, Mariot, Garcia) that I don't see an issue with clearing and we still need a bench. I seriously doubt they won't pick up a veteran back up catcher(Probably Ellis), middle infielder(Probably Blanco) and Outfielder(who knows). Any moves beyond that will cost us losing someone off the 40 man roster, that at least I have no desire to try to pass through waivers. Plus it shuts us out of the Rule 5 Draft...........and ruins my Christmas.

When I suggested the deal, it was to take on Ethier's contract the same way we took on Harrison's, not expecting much from the individual player, all about everything else we got in return. Anything we got out of, or for Ethier would be a bonus.

I was thinking along the lines of multiple prospects that didn't need protecting on the 40 man roster(Verdugo?).

I don't mind that approach, but still would not include Tirado. He is just too good an arm.
