AV and Fletcher turned this club into a grease fire. Slackers and loafers abounded on this roster through last season. Tortorella was brought in here to evaluate who could and couldn't play. Provorov, Hayes and D'Angelo stood out last season as guys who clearly were misfits. Their performance on and off of the ice sealed their doom. That had nothing to do with the coach. Now they're gone. Torts is becoming the fall guy for some but the truth of the matter is that these guys are not the type of players that you want in the locker room when you're bringing in new blood. This coming season will see Foerster, Desnoyers, Attard, Zamula, Brink, and Ersson on the club. They don't need to deal with the old boy's club shenanigans that has been going on here for too long.

I don't know why they can't take Michkov. He's probably the next best player after Bedard. Just because he has a 3 year deal to play in the KHL it's not so different than Gauthier playing at Boston College, and he'll probably be playing with better players. You might even be able to buy out his 3rd year if they really want him here sooner. The Flyers are not playing to win for the next two years for sure, so if it is a total rebuild, what's wrong with buying a lottery ticket.

Understand! We fully agree I think. High upside and the longer timeline isn't really a negative unless he is somehow kept from playing in the NHL at all. I can understand passing on him if there's equivalent talent but by the 7th pick that might not be the case.

I have seen some mocks suggesting Detroit or Washington (the Russia-friendly teams) might try to get the Canadiens pick. I could also see the Flyers wanting to do that if they pick up more asssets between now and tonight. But I also reckon they'd be doing that to get Leonard, given the Flyers' affinity for players of his pedigree.

Very pleased. It was such a bummer they couldn't have a top 3 pick and they still got top 3 talent. On top of that, you won't convince me that the Clarke/Holmgren Flyers would have done this in a million years, especially with Leonard on the board.

He is signed in Russia until 25-26 season. Interesting pick, he will be 22 when (if) he finally comes over unless something very strange happens.

I think the concerns are more about the politics than the KHL contract. If there are no issues he is merely developing over there as well or not better than if he was in the the WHL, AHL or college. But he was sent to Nashville and must have shown well there in the interview. Hopefully the other teams passed on him because of the timeline and not the other things.

Almost as funny that the Caps have Leonard vs. the Flyers having the Russian guy. Ideally he and Gauthier will duke it out for years to come.

Yes, the politics are a big deal. It is hard to know what the situation between Russia and the free world will be over the next 4 years, we may never see this guy, or he could defect tomorrow (not sure NHL would not honor the Russian contract). Going to be interesting to see, I suspect we will be looking at him as a special future player, hope that is correct.
