Crawford always had great pitch selection but I never thought he would be anything more than a .250-.260 hitter. I thought he would be one of those rare guys who has an OBP which is 80-100 points higher than his BA. One question, however, is whether or not his high OBP is sustainable at the ML level without much power.

It should also be noted that Crawford always seemed to need a half a season to adjust to each level when he was on the way up. He never got his half season to adjust in PHL.

I don't love trading JPC for Segura - I don't hate it either. But, when you factor in the jettisoning of Santana and the 2 BP arms back, I like the deal in its entirety.

No one would give up value for JPC if he was a guaranteed zero. For all those that criticize the team for waiting until a players value is at a low point, this is the answer - another injury in spring training and he’s a total zero.

Yes, JPC could end up a good player, but this is a reasonable gamble. You can not have it both ways.

Again, I think this move is part of a larger series of moves to clarify and upgrade the roster.

We'll see how Klentak handles the Hernandez/Franco/Kingery issue, how he continues to re-craft the bullpen, how he improves the starting rotation and clarifies the everyday lineup.

If he can move Franco and/or Hernandez for value, sign either Machado (my hope) or Harper and provide more consistent performance to the rotation and pen, that would be a spectacularly successful off-season in my view.

I am sure BE will be all over me. Heck he still gets on me even though I was right about Dom Brown. So I have complete trust in BE's willingness to jump on me.

It's probably true that JP will never be a "good hitter." But he can be - and already was - a "good offensive baseball player."

JP is no spring chicken anymore, and I think Kingery can make a big jump offensively, defensively he's probably no better than average at SS down the road, but didn't do badly for his first season there. Problem with JP is he just never seem to get it and take the next step, and at some point you wonder if he ever will.

And yes, numbers matter with prospects, a lot of our IF prospects are young LA bonus babies, we only need a couple to emerge as solid players over 4 years - safety in numbers.

I agree with Lawman like the trade on the whole. Would have been fine signing Machado and seeing what Kingery and Crawford could do as 2b ss combo.

Keith Law generally likes the deal. Biggest benefits of course are getting players suited to play LF and SS to actually play those positions.
