I think that one is much closer. Alabama has a handful of first round picks every year and a good coach. They'd give the Giants a run for their money.

Alabama had a better QB and LT than the Giants last year. Evan Neal is 6'7" 350 lbs. He seems like a full-grown man to me.

Not sarcastic. This is the kind of argument that will never get settled, though. Football is, of course, a game played by 11 people at a time. The WORST player on the Giants was an all-American type in college, and would crush whoever he is matched up with on the Tide. Don't you think a 25-30 year old pro is substantially stronger and has way more "moves" than a kid just graduating college? There is a reason most rookies don't play right away, especially at the strength positions. And pro defenses are WAY more complicated than college coverages/blitz schemes. Bama wouldn't know what hit them if the Giants played to win.

I never played football competitively, but the difference with NCAA hockey is that the top prospects rarely go that route. So any NCAA team is vastly under skilled vs a pro team. That's simply not the case in football where they have to play in college. Plenty of teenagers come into the NHL and are productive or even very good. If they were required to be held back for 2-3 years, then they'd come into the league as top tier.

Sorry for the derail, but Bryce Young, Neal, and Jameson Williams would likely unseat all of the NYG starters last year. And the difference between Judge and Saban would be noticeable.

I mean, Landon Dickerson was incredible last year as a rookie and coming off an ACL. Your comment about not being able to block them makes no sense.

We are specifically talking about the worst NFL teams playing against the best NCAA teams. I would guess that you are giving too much credit to bad NFL coaching schemes.

Hockey and football are admittedly different in terms of the developmental levels but I don't think you can underestimate the men against boys factor in either sport. Most ECHL teams would also still be able to to beat a college or major junior team on most nights, even if the latter had a few future NHL stars. And any college football team is still 80% guys who aren't good enough to play in the NFL. Maybe the high-end first string talent of a Bama would make it interesting is all.

Whenever anyone makes the argument that a college team would beat a professional team because they have a handful of guys that will play in the NFL I always wonder why that person doesn't understand that every single player on the NFL roster is an NFL player. The only way the best college team wins against the worst NFL team is if Lawrence Taylor sends hookers to everyone's room the night before - but on a level playing field I am with PC on this one, it isn't even close.

The men against boys argument is thrown out the window in the NFL when the boys are 6'7" 350 lbs.

Alabama doesn't have a handful of guys that will play in the NFL. They have a handful of guys that are drafted in the first round pretty much every year. Which means Alabama's current team has more than a dozen future first round picks.

FWIW, Daniel Jones was not an all american. If I can make an assumption, then PC is saying the worst player on the NYG is the QB? Hurts left Alabama because he wasn't the best QB on the roster... he's currently the Eagles starting QB

Smith was the Eagles best WR as a rookie and he was the 3rd Alabama player drafted last year.

The best defenseman on an ECHL team might get beat by an 18 year-old Malkin multiple times in a game but overall, the ECHL team would still have superior depth and ability... especially since players as good as Malkin also don't stay on their junior teams for long.

I reckon the best analogy is FBS vs. FCS football games. Over 100 games an FCS team is going to win five or six or even 10 of those, in some cases because the talent levels are actually close and in a few because the superior team didn't take it seriously enough. But the better team is still going to win most nights. And so it would be if it's the Houston Texans vs. Alabama.

I think I have been talking about teams.Couts was not elite at 19. The fact that he was so good against elite, full-grown, men at 19 was my point. Now, apply that performance and expand it to an NCAA football team where you have a dozen elite talents and compare them to the Giants, Jets, etc.

My last comment on this. The guys on the NFL team left college 3-7 years ago. Do you think they got worse? Or weaker? Or have fewer moves? The first round Bama draft picks are good, but about 1/3 to 1/2 of them don't start the season at their positions. For example, if Seumalo and Brooks hadn't gotten hurt, Dickerson, who was probably Bama's second best lineman last season, would have sat on the bench. Alex Leatherwood, Bama's best lineman, committed 14 penalties and allowed 8 sacks for the Raiders last season,. Their other three guys were worse. The NFL guys play football for a living, lift weights about twice as much as college guys, and play against the best players in the world every week. Even the guys on the Giants. They would kick Bama's rear end.
