Alabama probably averages 4 first rounders per year? Which means there are currently 8 future 1st round picks on the Bama team. How many first round picks are on the Giants roster? Even worse is that Alabama has a huge advantage at the most important position (QB) is better than the current Giants QB. The reason that the NFL teams don't have all americans at every position is because 1) they don't get unlimited 1st round picks and 2) the salary cap prohibits that. We just had a discussion about why the Eagles traded a current 1st because you want to layer your big contracts. That's not a thing in the NCAA.

Yes, Dickerson might not have started. That doesn't really matter as he was clearly NFL caliber.

Also, this whole thing started as a joke making fun of the Giants.

EDIT: I'll expand a little more.Waddle, Surtain, Smith, Mac Jones, Dickerson, and Barmore would have started for the Giants last year (that's only the players that were drafted and doesn't involve who is currently on the Bama roster). It's also omitting Najee Harris only because of Barkley... even though Harris had 1200 yards rushing and 7 TDs as a rookie.

And the question you have not addressed is not whether or not these players had skills or strength as college players, but whether or not their skills improved as they spent their first few years as pros. Especially linemen improve dramatically over their first few pro years, they get stronger and learn the required techniques.

They used to play a game in Chicago where the college all stars would play vs the NFL champs pre-season. The NFL teams played mostly back-ups for a good portion of the game, it was played during NFL training camp, and there were rules in place to help the college team (no blitzing by the pros, only certain types of zone coverage allowed, etc.) The NFL won 16 of the last 17 of those games, the last 12 in a row, many of which were lopsided, and the game died out in 1976 because of the lack of competition and economic factors. The last team to lose to the college all-stars were the 1963 Packers, who played their starters two series in that game. The preseason NFL back-ups dominated not the best college team, but the best of the best.

You're also referencing a game being played in the 70's.

And yes, players skill/strength levels can increase improve until, let's say, 30. Alabama athletes skill level is already at a high level when they are drafted. Unless Evan Neal really doesn't know how to play football... none of that really matters. He's physically superior to most NFLers at 21.

The game was cancelled in the 70s because it was getting more and more lopsided. People always underestimate just how good the worst pro teams are in any sport. Do you realistically think the Rams second string would beat the4 Giants' starters? We need to stop hijacking this thread...

You just said the game was against the champs. that is not the worst pro teams. It was also from a half century ago. Apply it to this year and I'm fairly confident that a Leatherwood, Neal, and Dickerson line would not be undermatched against the worst team in the NFL.

The knock on Brink is that he's undersized and isn't a good skater? I slightly disagree... he knows how to get wide in traffic. He's just not very fast.

That being said, just draft Caufield instead of York at #14

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see York as being an elite player. At his size, he has to be well above average in skills and I just don't see it (not saying he won't be a good player). Caufield's skill level is well above both even despite his size.

Tippett reminds me a bit of Jagr, but he is fairly awful in space (I guess that means passing and situational awareness). He's just a chucker right now (but he does have an incredible shot, so he's definitely positive value depending on his role).

At this point - even though it's also not surprising given they didn't fully commit - it's just frustrating they can't get into the Top 3. But I guess it could still happen!

I think you're half right. Offensively, I do not believe York will be elite. He will be good, but not great. Defensively, however, is where I think he will be elite. That is where the Flyers need the most help anyway so I see him being here quite a while.

Given his size the chances of York being elite defensively is unlikely. Lots of Flyers fans aren't even high on Provorov.

Caufield has legitimate elite offensive talent. If you want to gamble on undersized players in the draft, then at least choose the ones that have the highest upside.

Then again, the organization can't develop Morgan Frost, Farabee has stagnated, and made some awful moves to get rid of Ghost.

I guess the plus side to this is that the Rangers also haven't developed their bright stars.... unfortunately they are currently a good team.
