With BC being such a poor GM and embarrassing the franchise, the process has been made harder.
I was hoping his father would get canned along with him, but one does not get everything one wants all the time. I'm just glad that BC got exposed and held accountable.
However, thanks to what Hinkie did before the NBA engineered his firing with complicity of the 76ers ownership, the job Brown has done as coach and the progress & health (thank god) of Embiid, Simmons, Saric etc., the 76ers still have a lot of opportunity to continue building the roster into a consistent contender.
There is still development that needs to happen - Simmons should be locked in the gym with the shot coach all summer; he cannot come back for another season without any shot or the ability to make a 3 pointer. It makes it far too easy for a defense. Fultz obviously needs to be developed in many ways.
A big FA signing or trade like James or Leonard seems remote according to recent reports, but eventually the 76ers will need to get 1 elite scorer to complement their home grown talent. That talent alone will not be enough to compete at the highest level.
The roster needs to be reformed to provide better depth and shot making - we need a legit backup C primarily for defense and we need better team defense overall especially on the wings. On offense, we need to give Simmons and Embiid more consistent shot making options. The offense cannot run through Embiid only nor can Simmons, due to his one dimensional game right now, carry the primary load.
Sure,we would make the playoffs that way, but we would never be in real contention for the title. And the process is about titles, not playoff berths or winning records or splashy marketing campaigns. Titles.
