Give the Kings the 3rd pick and Okafor for the 5th and 10th picks and grab Tatum and Ntilikina? That wouldn't be terrible, but with likely lottery picks next year (Lakers) and 2019 (Kings), I would go with Jackson and live with Bayless and Stauskas for 2017. Jackson fits how Brown wants to play, is a strong two way player whom they can groom behind RoCo.

Let's not forget the 76ers also have 4 2nd round picks (36, 39, 46 and 50), figure a couple EU draft and stash picks, but there are a couple interesting SG options that should be available, Sindarius Thornwell from South Carolina and Tyler Dorsey from Oregon. Either would fit nicely with the Sixers

I'll gladly take Ball or Josh Jackson. I could be convinced to trade down a bit for Markkanen, Monk, or Isaac. I think that Brandon Ingram would have been taken after Fultz, Ball, Jackson, and Tatum/Markkanen, so I'm very happy with the 3rd pick this year. I really wish the Lakers pick would have conveyed as I think the Sixers and Lakers pick could be much closer to the 10th pick next year.

I'm happy with the Lakers pick next year, they're unlikely to be a much better team and the Sixers will have plenty of guys to integrate into this year's version.
With the Laker pick in 2018 and the Sacramento pick in 2019, plus a bunch of 2nd rd picks, Sixers will be in good position to move up, down or trade for an established player.

Yeah....I'm of the view that you don't get cute and just take whichever of Fultz, Ball or Josh Jackson is left at #3. I am also keen to Austinfan's point that we have enough things to integrate this year already so the Lakers pick rolling over yet again isn't the worst thing in the world. I actually like Stauskas more than most so I'm kinda glad it looks like he'll still be on the squad next year.

That would be pretty awful. #3 is close to being worth #5 and #10 and Okafor has value. If you want 5 and 10, rather than 3 then perhaps add one of our 2nd rounders. We have learned that Okafor and Embiid don't play well together, but we've also learned that they are both injury prone. Play Embiid a bit under 30 minutes a game and Okafor close to 20 and always have a fresh center in the game. I think people are just unreasonably down on the still very young Okafor.

Sixers have so many assets in terms of future picks that at some point they will be able to make moves to push them to the 50+ win team we think they will be. Add simmons back and who we pick and this team should be ready to develop in to the top team we think they will be. It will be fun to see the Celtics/Sixers games feel like the games I remember growing up...

The Okafor situation is really a quandary. He simply does not fit with the 76ers. They want to run, he is a half court player. He's a center that doesn't defend or rebound. He is a gifted low post player, but again, that doesn't fit what the team is doing. By all accounts he has handled the situation very well and has not been a malcontent. His has knee problems that have kept him out of games. How do you justify giving him playing time? Holmes has shown he deserves the backup center minutes.

It makes all the sense in the world to trade Okafor, but his value is almost nothing right now, so they are likely going to have to start the season with him and give him minutes and hope his value goes up, or they have to give him away, hard to do for a player picked #3 overall just two years ago. I don't think there is a GM in the league that would give anything of value for him (except maybe Vlade). I just hope however it shakes out, his presence on the team doesn't derail the team making progress in 2017.

What will change between this year and next year? The Sixers will still have plenty of people to integrate into next years team. Unless you're thinking that Covington will be maxed by someone else and he'll need to be replaced?

Who knows where the Lakers will pick next year. To me, having an extra top-5 pick in a strong draft class is worth more than an unknown pick position in an unknown draft class strength. They could have also used the Lakers pick to move up for Fultz or Ball or used it to trade for an established player.

This is especially true since this draft class isn't just good, but lines up with the positions that the Sixers need. The only big in the top 10 is Markkanen and even he is a very good outside shooter that would pair well with Embiid. Everyone else is a G or SF.

Outside of Fultz, the rest are projects, it's very possible that one of the 2nd rd picks (likely a senior) could play ahead of a top pick this year.
Someone like Fox will struggle to play ahead of TLC, Bayless, McConnell, and will be fighting with NIk (and Henderson, if he returns) for PT.
Someone like Isaac may not see the floor until he spends a year in the weight room.

Embiid, Simmons, Saric, RoCo, Holmes [Jah} - no time for a rookie forward on this team barring injury
Bayless, TLC, McConnell, Nik, (Henderson) - a guard will have to have a good outside shot and show he can play defense to garner PT.

We've seen the 'one and dones' - look at guys like Dunn, would he play as a rookie here?
Ingram, Chriss got PT b/c they were on terrible teams, Dunn and Brown played 15 minutes a night.
Someone like Fox could play defense, but can't shoot, someone like Monk can shoot, but can't play defense.

So to me, just focus on "coachability," can a player accept the tough coaching to make him into a solid top 8 rotation player in 2018-19?

There are a lot of pieces that could be in motion that could factor into who the Sixers draft. Let's say they go all in and make a trade for George or Butler that doesn't involve this year's pick. Would you still draft a SF?

What about SG? You have Bayless and Stauskas who can hold the fort down for next year. You have four 2nd round picks where you can pick up some other SG prospects. You can even give RoCo some minutes there. You have Korkmaz waiting in the wings, who by accounts is really starting to flourish and is just 19. You also have TLC who might just be a player that can play at the 2 and the 3.

While I agree with Squire, it makes sense to just take the highest rated player, which will likely be Jackson, but there may be so many other shoes dropping, who knows. Colangelo really has to earn his keep this year.

First, I very much disagree that besides Fultz the rest are projects. IMO, Ball is good to go from day 1 and I'm not convinced that Fultz is that much, if at all, better. Jackson and Markkanen also have games that could be pro-ready. Fox too, even without a great shot.

Second, Fultz, Ball, Fox, and Monk would all be better than Bayless, TLC, McConnell, etc and would most likely get substantial playing time.

Third, since when is a draft pick going to be the answer from day 1? Bringing in top talent is most important right now. Having multiple top-10 picks in a good draft would have accomplished that. Even if that meat using one of those picks as a trade chip.

Fultz, Ball, Fox, and Monk would all be more talented than Bayless, TLC, McConnell, not necessarily better as rookies.

TJ has one of the best A/TO ratios in the league, and is a pest on defense. Hard for a rookie to play better than that. A one and done isn't going to run the offense like a college senior with 2 NBA seasons under his belt.

Bayless is an experienced pro PG/SG who has a consistent outside shot, again, most rookies lack a consistent shot or can't play defense to save their life (see Russell, Wiggins)

TLC made great strides as a rookie who had played in Europe for a couple seasons, and he's probably as athletic as most of the guards in this draft, he still needs time in the weight room (but so did Ingram) and to work on his 3 point shot. So TCL in his second NBA season or a rookie?

Name all the one and done guards and small forwards who were instant NBA successes?

I don't have to as I'm not arguing that a top-5 pick will be an instant NBA success. My whole point was that this is a good draft class (as opposed to last year) and that an extra pick in the top 5/10 will most likely be more valuable than the Lakers pick next year. Whether the Sixers drafted with the pick, used it to move up in the draft, or used it to trade for a player.

You were saying that you didn't want the Lakers pick to convey this year as the team has too many viable players. However, next year they will have 2 first round picks and Korkmaz likely coming over. How is that any better of a situation? Is your whole point to swap out a potential top-5 pick for a ~#10 pick next year in order to use it on a guy that can be stashed overseas for 2 years? I don't see how that's a good use of assets.
