Maybe we're jumping ahead of ourselves. What are the chances that a Sixers first draft pick will actually play during his rookie season?

I like having the options next year after this team has played together for a season.

This seems like a move that essentially makes the Celtics so good you cant compete with them.

They are potentially looking at another top 3 pick next year...

I'm not enough of an NBA guy to intelligently comment here, so I'll ask it.

What's better?

1) Embiid, Simmons, Saric, Pick #3?

2) Embiid, Simmons, Pick #1?

If you go with 1 then who do you want as the 3rd pick? And the 1st pick, if you go with option 2?

Don't forget that Simmons also has the Sixers sending the Lakers pick next year in the deal.

Fultz/Simmons/Embiid would be your big three. If I could be certain that Embiid would be healthy I'd probably do the deal even though I think it's a bit of an overpay. Those three fit together so well we'd be contenders for a decade. Add Cov and Bayless and even next year we'd be a threat.

I think you'd need to get a mid-first round pick back from Boston and put top-3 protection on the Lakers' pick to make the value relatively fair.

Making this deal would make the Celtics even better. You would have to take in to consideration this is a team you will compete with on a regular basis.

First, I wouldn't trade Saric, it's not just that he's goigg to get better (watch for major improvement in his 3 point shot, and he'll add strength), but there's the character issue, some athletes have that will to win, and Saric has it in spades, you need these guys to go with the stars.

Second, I wouldn't trade with Boston, for a number of reasons, they're Boston, you're dealing with Ainge, and you have to get through them to get to the finals.

Third, I'd wait and see if Embiid can stay healthy, if he can't, Fultz isn't going to make you a championship team.

Fourth, let's see how Simmons develops as well as TLC, Korkmaz, etc.

Fifth, if Boston takes Fultz, we can sign Bradley in FA after next season and laugh at Ainge. With Thomas and Fultz, you know Bradley will walk.

A boston guy saying what he wants. Yea, I would like a trade of Lebron James for Sergio Rodriguez.

if there was a "Great" #1 pick then I could maybe see something like this, but there isnt. Fultz is not a "once in a generation" player, he is an very good PG. No way I give up all of that for him.

I hope Sixers keep the 3rd pick. I'd not make the Celtics any better than they are. Ainge won't make any deal unless the Celtics are the clear winner.
Part of the deal is considering how much better we make the Celtics. Saric has a grit you cannot teach. Keep him.

Sure. Because we have enough extra picks that Fultz is worth more than say picking #6-10 next year.

But Ainge doesn't need picks, he needs forwards.

So, you're saying that you want the Lakers pick next year instead of this year. Correct? And then you are blaming me for predicting how 17 year olds will look by next April.

I am saying that I know the strength of this draft class, especially with regards to how the top-10 stacks up to recent drafts. Based off of that strength, the unknown draft class next year, and the unknown of where the Lakers will pick next year, I am saying that I'd rather have two top-10 picks this year.

I am doing the exact opposite of predicting. I know who is coming out this year, how they stack up to recent draft classes, and what positions the draft is strong in.

You are saying that the Sixers should wait a year before taking the Lakers pick. I have asked why a few times and I don't think you've had an answer except to say that you want to see how Simmons and Embiid play together. Unfortunately, sports GMs don't get to have a "wait and see" approach. That's the same reason the team got no good offers for Okafor or Noel. The team waited too long to trade one. Okafor proved that he was very limited to a low post offensive weapon (which is not highly thought of in today's NBA given that he's bad defensively) and Noel got too expensive.

I'd definitely do it for #3 this year and a future 1st. I don't think that I'd do it for that plus Saric. And I'm not a big Saric fan, but I feel like he'd leave a hole at the PF that wouldn't be easy to replace without a draft pick or a FA signing (that the team could help use towards another guard spot).

I'd rather trade down. Say trade #3 and Okafor for Sacramento's #5 and #10. Take some combination of Jackson/Fox/Isaac/Tatum and Markkanen/Monk/Ntilikina. IMO, Markkanen has better shooting and doesn't need the ball in his hands like Saric. That would create better spacing while leaving the ball in Simmons and Embiid's hands. If you're interested in trading Saric, then you can do it next year in a package with picks to move during the draft.

I would do it for the 3td pick, plus the Sixers natural pick next year, I'd want to keep the Lakers pick. I wouldn't include Saric or Korkmas. They could take Okafor if they want. They'll get the forward they want with the 3rd pick.

I'd just play it straight and stick at #3. We will get a very good talent at guard or forward.
