I believe his argument is that a 2nd round guard will be older and more pro-ready than a one-and-done lottery pick. While that may be true, it only holds for a season or two. I think AF's mistake, besides the fact that he thinks the current team will win 50 games next season, is that a rookie 2nd rounder will make a different in making the playoffs or not next season.
The team should be looking 3-5 years down the road. Not only will the core of the team be ready to make a run by then (hopefully), but the slew of 1st round picks should be developing and contributing by then.
Making the playoffs in 2 years and then looking to get deeper into the playoffs 2 years later should really be the expectation.
