New thread for the Sixers current season. Good game last night, was thrilled that Embid wasn't held to 16 minutes.

A shame they didn't win with Cov playing so well. Saric had a poor game, and Johnson and Bayless had bad stretches that hurt. Still, they had the ball twice down 2 points inside the last 2 minutes.

I think that if Holmes were not injured the Sixers would have won the game. When Embiid sat, Gortat just owned the paint. 16 pts and 17 boards is ridiculous. Johnson was completely saddled with fouls and rendered ineffective. Holmes has the hops and athleticism to have won that battle within the war. He will be back soon and will be a real asset.

Wizards were without Morris and lost Smith to injury also, so it is hard to say Holmes being hurt was a big reason.

Sixers fans overrate Holmes. He's not good defensively, especially against other big men, and he's not good on the board. Look at his per-36 stats. He's a bouncy big who can run and dunk.

Stauskas played the most minutes of any player on the roster last year, doesn't see the floor in the opener. Also sad to see Okafor not get a shot at all. It's hard to believe he can't contribute anything to a team.

The okafor thing is very odd...I thought he had a decent camp and should be somewhere in the rotation.

Okafor missed practice before the game with diarrhea. Wasn't 100% recovered by game time.

Another night on the bench for Sauce and Big Jah. Assuming Okafor is feeling better as he was out at Eastern State Penitentiary with Jayson Tatum and Amile Jefferson last night.

This team should be fun to watch and since it will be a while until the next back to backs we should see embiid on the court more. Simmons is really a fun guy to watch...

Fultz reportedly had fluid removed from his shoulder at the end of the pre-season. Has been playing through injury...can't lift his arm to shoot. Sixers injury curse strikes again. Don't know why they don't shut him down and play Bayless and Stauskas for a while.

Now Fultz's agent is changing his story and saying Fultz had a cortisone shot...which is a little different than having fluid drained. He reportedly had the cortisone shot Oct. 5, and they're saying he's had some relief from the inflammation and symptoms since then.

Nonetheless, I don't think it changes the fundamental point. Fultz should be given time to get 100 percent healthy before he plays again. The plan to have him play through this is not working.

That will increase his trade vale. I mean, isn't this the kind of thing that people here often accuse the Phillies of doing, running guys' value into the ground?
