Yeah but that doesn't mean Harper in LF and Castellanos in RF (or vice-versa) isn't still a viable line-up, whether the 1B is Hoskins or someone else.
If Harper is the 1B the Phillies are probably going to sign a new RHB who can play LF and that person might not actually play good defense (or if he does, he might not be as good offensively as Hoskins).
And, same issue if Marsh is the full-time LF and Rojas starts in the bigs. You're picking defense over offense which is fine but that doesn't mean there isn't still an argument for picking offense over defense. And particularly the kind of offense Hoskins once provided (power with more discipline than our other hitters).
Ultimately, they still have to decide whether to sign a 1B or a LF, but they also have to decide how they really intend to use Marsh and Pache and Rojas, and on what timetable if Rojas isn't starting in the bigs.
Still think Bryce is gonna get a minimum of 50% of the say here too. If he tells them he strongly prefers to go back to RF, they are going to use that as a starting point in their moves. Or they could just flat-out tell him, we're not going to try and bring back Rhys, we want to sign another OF, we need you to stay at 1B. But I'm not sure that is really where they or he or at (i.e. Rhys may indeed still return).
