He's had terrible BABIP luck most years. But also very good BABIP luck this year.

He could be at the front of the parade as this year's Tug or Lidge, or it could be a regrettable trade. Because they certainly didn't need to give up two good prospects for what he's going to do in August and September.

But not giving anyone up for Hays helps (and letting Seranthony go means they were certain to get someone).

Terrible trade In my humble opinion. Two top prospects, both in our top 10-15 or so. I'd rather take a shot with Klassen. This is a serious ding to our system. I never like the 'trade prospects out and don't get any back' kind of trade.

The #5 and #7 according to the latest BA list...oh my. Should get Mariano Rivera for that.

I'm sorry...both of these prospects are no where near being the kind you cry about moving...if anything. These are exactly the guys you trade.

Somehow on the edge about losing Klassen - but his value couldn't have been more higher. College results were horrible when he was drafted out of University of Minnesota last year.

You can definitely make the case that there is extreme randomness in where major league pitchers come from. Cristopher Sanchez was a 40 man roster casualty. Tyler Phillips was a minor league free agent. Ranger was a low bonus Latin American signing.

And I couldn't disagree more. These are the #5 and #7 prospects in a pretty decent system. One of them and a lottery ticket, maybe. Estevez isn't a stud...good year so far, but mediocre previously. Due to regress to his career mean numbers. He's a 31-year-old 0.5 to 1 WAR pitcher. Those guys are pretty fungible. Klassen, especially, isn't, with his stuff.

This is an Ed Wade (potential disaster) trade. There, I said it.

It’s not that those guys were untradeable, but no way I would have thought it would take that much for a rental reliever.

Here's hoping the Phils' brain trust has used up their mistakes on Merrifield and Lorenzen. Looks stronger than Dominguez - Phils are improved.

Klassen is probably going to end up as a 6-7th inning RP like Marte, maybe have a good year or two like SD. Phillies have a lot of these erratic big arms, most never are consistent enough to make it.

The lefty has a good shot at being a #4/#5 starter at some point, maybe a #3 if he continues to develop and add velocity.
But we already have Ranger and Sanchez, Painter next year and Phillips under team control.

This is fine. Improved the bullpen, improved the OF, net loss was a pitcher who just hit AA and another in A+ ball.
Neither is a top 5 prospect, maybe 9-10 in the Phillies system.
Didn't trade Painter, Abel, Miller, Caba, Crawford, Tait, Bergolla, who'd I'd rank significantly higher.

It's a bit of a seller's market at the top I think, and once the Phillies traded Seranthony they signaled that they wanted someone who is plausibly one of their three best relievers and a clear upgrade over Soto and Kerkering. He's having a great year, he's a capital-C closer, he has the stuff they like. If he regresses hopefully it will be on his new team.

I do still think he's probably twice as valuable as Robertson or Lorenzen, and we always knew those were the names likely go this year in a similar deal.

If that's what a rental reliever cost imagine what a starter might fetch.

well, not only the #5 and #7 rated prospects but the #2 and #3 top prospect pitchers in the organization. For a 31 year old rental? DD better be correct here. he has really put a dent in the young pitching. Without even adding any in the draft. Wow.
