Saw this quote from Klentak catching up on my NYTs:
"We want to be an organization that controls the strike zone, both on the mound and at the plate--and that doesn't happen overnight. It takes time to acquire players who do that and develop players in the system who do that. That has been our goal for the last several years, and there's nobody in baseball better at it than Carlos Santana."
When you look at someone like Pujols, you can see this starting to pay off. And it's a reason to be patient with Ortiz, he may be struggling with this new approach, but once he figures it out, if you have to throw strikes to someone with that kind of power, watch out. Even Walding and Cozens have benefited, though if you can't hit a breaking ball, no amount of plate discipline will solve that, other than to avoid getting in the hole chasing low breaking balls.
