Yeah. But: 1) that wouldn't work here - one can theoretically correct a routine misspelling, if it's predictable, and if the misspelled word isn't something that's in general use - neither of which applies here (e.g., one could correct Goedell to Goeddel, because the misspelling is never the right word, but Saunders/Sanders? Sorry.); and 2) our new environment doesn't support word replacements, so it's moot anyway.
I have this perverse idea that any fan of the Phillies ought to know the names of the players - and knowing the names of the players means being able to tell the difference between Rolen and Rollins, or between Hamels (Cole) and Hammel (Jason), or knowing that Bobby Abreu isn't "Abreau." I mean, I can understand having trouble with names of players on other teams, or with the really challenging stuff (Jarrod Saltalamacchia, for example). But our guys? Come on.
But of course, I'm kidding myself. It's become clear over the years that many just don't care. I've just assumed that we're going to see more brutalizations of player names in this board environment; most of the time, we'll probably be able to figure out who the poster is talking about... and hey, if it's to the point that we can't tell (or it's something that leads to humor), at least we'll be entertained!
